When they found out you were getting a sportbike? My parents just recently found out about my R6 and I thought it was gonna be the beginning of WWIII. Granted I don’t live at home anymore so besides the whole “Your gonna die on that thing” mentality parents usually have against sport bikes, I was kinda of surprised at her reaction.
Anyway how did your parents deal with it when you first rolled up the driveway?
My dad was like “ride within your limits and don’t push them too much; don’t do anything stupid”
Mom… well… she almost had a heart attack… but she basically said the same thing. Then told me to get a living will so no matter what happened they both knew what to do if something did happen.
My dad drove it home for me, cuz I didn’t have my permit yet… was going the next day!!! LOL
Im not that into bikes enough to buy one, but i did tell my parents one day that i was about to go pick up a new sportsbike and i needed a ride. They believed me and flipped out they were like “if you buy a bike your not welcome back home”. Their happy i probably will never buy a bike.
My dad just kept uttering “what did we do wrong,” and my mom just cried in the corner saying “I cant believe my sons a heeewwwmmooo.”
JK lol, I told my mom I was interested last year and her being a nurse scolded me for a long time about it (come to think of it, I think thats the plot of Biker Boyz). I will still have one someday but I know my parents wont be too happy.
yea they knew I ride but I think she was more upset at the fact I bought another bike after only having my other one for only 2 years.
The time I bought my first bike home, my neighbor came over to see what was going on as there was ALOT of yelling from them, I just kept my mouth shut haha
I think my parents had more of a WHY??? reaction first followed by all the bad stories they could think of…but they got over that. They also tried persuading me to get a cruiser, but that didn’t work either.
I didnt tell my uncle about it (he is a trooper, lol) He always said he would never let me own a bike. He eventually found about it and one day was like “hows the bike?” lol. he never actually saw it though.
my parents really didnt care though, typical mom worry but what can ya do about that.
father thought it was a good decision based on the supermoto bike i bought… practical and such. mother gave me the whole you’re gonna die routine, and considering she trains horses for a living and is a frequent flier on mercy flight and has a room reserved at most major hospitals. i reminded her of these facts and told her she didn’t have any room to talk and that shut her up. pulled out of the driveway and carried it through 4th gear which i’m sure was very reassuring of my safety.
my mother doesnt know I have a bike, my dad is all for it. my uncle also knows and is all for it…mom doesnt know cause she cried for 2hrs when she found out I had gotten my permit
they made me sell it… 40k toward tuition was more important to me than an 800 dollar bike. that being said… 3 months later, they made me sell the car i bought soon after, and i bought another bike. since then, i’ve owned 5+ more bikes.
they came around, they still dont like it, but they trust me and know im much more responsible with it now… and for the most part, stay within my known limits.
ugh, my mom reacted like i just burned down the house when i brought my 89 ninja home. it was pretty bad, but i was still in HS and really stupid then, so looking back at it she didn’t overreact too bad lol.
My dad has rode for 30+ years, he liked the purchase lol.
5 years later, my mom lightened up quite a bit, but is still uneasy about the idea.
When I first bought mine my Mom was nervous, then I lost a friend on a bike and it was a huge problem in the community so I sold it. This time around she told me just to be safe.
I told my mom in advance and she just kept telling me I was gonna die. I brought the bike to my parents house and my dad was looking at it and then said he needed time to himself. Dropped it the next day and my parents were sooooo angry. They said that there was “something wrong with me” and that “I’d never be able to ride it.”
my dad is REALLY nervous about me just driving the T-rex around… I make him worry so much. He can’t wait until i get rid of it.
I’ve had the itch for a sportbike and plan on getting one, but i fear it may put my father over the edge. I’m holding of a bit for the time being, may wait until i move out of state.
