How do people ship body panels?

In particular things like hoods, trunk lids, spoilers, etc… I see shops often charge only $60 for shipping on a cf trunk you buy from them, but when I price out shipping a trunk lid via UPS, it is often close to $200 bucks. Has anyone shipped anything large like this, and had success?

I need to ship my evo trunk lid and wing to Chicago, and I fear that getting it there is going to be a nightmare.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!

truck freight shipping.

I’ve shipped motors around via freight, but they require you to put things on palets, etc… That may actually work for something like this though, so nothing gets stacked on top of it. That would require me to find another pallet >.<

its really 200$ ? is there a special thing for car parts? it was only like 20$ to ship 35lbs

It is only like $20 to ship 35 pounds when it is normal size. When it is 50" long, 40" tall, and 30" deep, its no longer convenient to ship, so they charge for that inconvenience.

fuck… where did u go to get this quote? i have to ship out my front bumper

Greyhound shipping. Its actually pretty cheap.

I received my current evo hood via greyhound, and it was very ghetto. I had to pick it up at the downtown Rochester terminal, kinda in a back alley. I wonder if I would have to drop it off in the same spot?

I am going to see the UPS store this week, and see what they can offer me. I think I have a business account with them, so maybe I can get some sort of discount. That way, they pack it for you too.

it just seems ghetto due to the rochester location.

but yes, you would have to drop it off at the station. When it gets in they call the other guy and have him go pick it up at his station.

+1

I shipped 2 front bumpers for my Eclipse, a hood, and a rear bumper via Greyhound from said Rochester ghetto location. It was very awkward but very cheap, and yes that is the drop off spot as well.

www.freightquote.com will find u the cheapest, best way to ship. Use a tough box(for over sea’s shipping) to help it get there in 1 pc. Use alot of packing.

I’ve used Greyhound to ship a pair of Jeep Wrangler full doors and a VW door with no issues. From the sound of it Buffalo’s location is much less sketch. For the Jeep doors, I dropped them off at 7pm and they arrived in Tennessee the next morning. So long as the person is willing to pick the stuff up, it’s the best way out there. They don’t abuse the stuff like UPS either.

i had a motor for my bike shipped up here on a pallet from florida and it was only like $75. i used old dominion freight.

im sure you could see what they charge for it.

thats where i usually go for shipping stuff and always have had good luck, shipped a 30"x12"x17" wood crate that weighed about 70lbs, cost me like $25.

I now have my box made. Its about 55" tall x 36" wide x 36" deep. Its pretty big now, about the size of a fridge. Still think that they can do it at greyhound?

Edit:

I have to re-measure it. They say if its 30 x 47 x 82, they will take it. Time to get out the tape measure, and do some adjusting if needed!

About 4-5 years ago I had greyhound ship me a tbird supercoupe rear bumper, a pretty rare item…

I insured it fully, and they totally lost it.

I valued it at double what I paid for it, and they paid the insurance on it…

I’m sorry, but you really have to try to lose an entire bumper.

It was the plastic bumper cover, it is huge. I have no idea how they lost it.
