How often to change oil in car not driven?

+1

it could be argued a 427 is a collector’s item… but I suspect it will take 40 years and lose to inflation

Exactly, just take a drive in it on saturday mornings for an hour. wouldn’t cause any significant amount of depreciation to drive it once a week.

I’m not getting into the whole garage queen debate… To each their own, it’s a personal choice if he wants to have a 427 Vette just to look at.

If you want to garage queen a car though I’m quite confident it’s far better for it to properly winterize it once a year vs starting it and letting it idle for 30 minutes every month. I’ve been storing boats for 1/2 a year at a time all my life and every spring they come out running perfectly, often after being stored in far worse conditions that your temperate garage.

also to add all the condensation that will sit in the exhaust…

That’s a good point, regarding the marine winterization process.

Hell yeah!

I bought the car because I absolutely love the looks and rarity and planned on driving it 500-1000 miles a yr. Bought in nov 13 planned on putting on road in spring.A couple months after my Dad died unexpectedly and basically tore my world apart hence I never put on the road spring. Drove twice since. Once to a memorial party we had for him in June and then a few weeks ago. Will probably put on the road next year I would imagine but just realized the oil is a yr and a half old so seeing how bad that was.
D

Then I would definitely treat it just like a boat. Put it away properly in the fall then don’t touch it until the spring.

Here is a good resource for marine winterization. Basically you can probably skip steps 3 (fuel filter, usually these don’t get changed much on cars), 5 (raw water cooling is irrelevant) and 6 (drivetrain). So basically you really need to get it up to temp, fog the engine and change the oil and you’re done. Then don’t touch it until you’re ready to drive it next.

And for reference, the type of boats that I’m usually around (not mine, mine’s an older style 350) use LS-Based motors (L96, LS3 and LSA) and follow this exact procedure for winter storage.

Wait, you drove it twice but it’s not registered? Damn that’s risky…

im assuming that means dealer plate

oh, right. derp
