how to buy a bike from a stranger with money owed on it?

trying to buy a bike that a guy has money owed on it… Im paying $3k for it and i think he owes like $3,200 on it… dudes telling me to give him the $3k and hell give me bike and title with a lien on it and the lien release in a few days when it comes, but wtf, how can i trust him to pay it off?

What can i do to protect myself? a bill of sale doesnt do shit these days?

He said he called the “yamaha credit” people who he got the loan with and they said you have to mail a check or pay with a debit/credit card over the phone and mail it, thats the only way.

Fuck that. Have him give you $200 plus the title the bike and everything. Then you pay off the loan. You get the lean release. Etc.

make him give you $200 then pay the lien with your debit/credit card.

dude might get the 3g cash and go party tonight then bike will still have lien and you are screwed.

how does he trust me tho payin it off ater he gives me the bike?

Go the bank together where the money is owed and pay it off and swap title then

Yup, do that ^

Ive done it for buying cars numerous times

He doesn’t. But you are in business to make money. No ones gonna wanna buy it from you with a lean on it. Espically a lean that is in someone else’s name. Not Even yours.

From what he is saying, it’s not a local bank. It’s Yamaha credit. So it’s not some bank they can just walk into

exactly, he said it can only be done by phone and then the lien release gets mailed within a few days… i said let me call them and pay it off and hes like nah thats not gonna work its in my name on my account and all this shit.

and this is a bike for me personally btw

Like others stated: Have him give you $200, the bike and the title, and you pay for the rest over the phone with the credit card/electronic check in front of him. Have him ask the CSR to send the lien release to your address.

They dont care who pays it off, as long as it’s paid off.

first sign that there is a chance hes going to try and scam you.

Like the other guys said sounds like the guy is trying to screw you. You should be able to pay the lien over the phone with him present and get a transaction number. Probably the only way to not get hosed on the deal

ok ill tell him i got the money in my account and ill come in person and pay it over the phone and to have the lien release sent to me. he shouldnt have any problem with that i dont think.

Ehh. Idk. It’s kinda sketchy

you wouldnt do even that??

dude is acting pretty fuckin wierd tho… hes like, yeah, it doesnt matters whos account it comes out of, but i need a copy of the lien release too, sent to me…im likee uhhh, no? Hes like yeah for my records to show i paid it off… im like, youll get a confirmation number, hes like idk but im shopping right now ill call u back and hangs up lol… Honestly, I really want this bike otherwise i wuda acted dumb like i was gonna hand over 3gs just to get his address and give em a nice crack to the face lol.

This. I sold a car to a guy and I still owed a difference on it in order to clear the lien on the title. The guy paid that and gave me the rest for what I was asking for the car and he had the lien release sent to him.

I guess what you said would work. If he’s not gonna do that, then walk away

love4boost come buy my buell it has no lien.

looking for another motard, just cant stand crotch rockets anymore.

dude is coming down tommorow to set up the deal, hope theres no way he can pull a fast one with the company.
