I blew up my motor in my civic right before winter. It’s a b18b with a .57 trim. I have already bought ACL race bearings,Egale rods and ARP head studs. Need to buy pistons and build the head. Just wondering if anyone has some tips for a good build and quality parts that don’t cost an arm and a leg.
Get rid of your SS Autochrome looking manifold.
CP 9.0:1 pistons, or 8.5:1.
B16A head.
Hey I’m building the motor first then going through the turbo kit one by one
dont try and be cheap…spend the money once not twice
Every honda seems to love cp pistons so I would stick with those and depends on how crazy you wanna go but 8.5:1 would be decent for it
we almost always go 9:1 for your typical street driven turbocharged honda. cp pistons have never done me or our customers wrong. when you have your block machined use the piston to wall specs cp supplies with their pistons.
oem head gasket from the factory will work fine even on an 81.5mm bore. oem Honda timing belt, and tensioner, oem oil pump and water pump, all new. tried and true formula. after the motor is built and everything is installed make sure it is fueled, and tuned properly.
Wiseco pistons are going to be the lowest price and good quality pistons. Can get a set for 400 with rings. Working on the engine first is a good choice. What happend to your motor now?
I think he spun a bearing Matt was saying
Either that or melted #3. Frank knows what to do. Make sure the motor is good to go first and for most.
Anyone recommend stock size pistons or go up to 81.5mm? I to am building my motor, but a slight diferent setup as Frank’s.
almost always recommend starting at 81.5mm so you have a fresh start free of any cylinder wall wear.
Well I am probably going to synapse tomorrow to buy pistons. So im sure I’ll ask a bunch of stupid questions. As for tuning I bought matt’s neptune from his car. I don’t know about compresion, But I deffenitly want to be able to run 15psi and be safe. Also want to run that daily. The bore to 81.5mm also sounds like a must have too.
Bought cp pistons today. Also took engine apart, #3 piston melted. Getting block ready to go to machine shop to be bored. Build is looking good so far with pistons, rods, bearings, head studs, Hasport motor mounts,Stage 5 clutch master 6 puck, misimoto aluminum radiator w/slim fan, and neptune. Now to figure out what to do with valves.
supertech valvetrain is the best bang for the buck out there. good quality fair price.
Or buy my head thats all ready done for you ;D
