HUD brightness

Ok, my HUD works fine, but I just noticed something. The brightness
that I set to won’t remain the same when I turn the car off and start it
back on.

Like if I put it on FULL brightness, and then turn the car off, and then
next time I start it back up, the brightness is back to the NORMAL position.

Is this normal or is my HUD somewhat showing signs of dying?

Its your TCU man.

That happend to me when my TCU fried.
Next setp is total Black Out.

Well at least thats what happened to me.

Timing control unit.

It controls a bunch of little things like wiper timing, door chime timing, gauge cluster pulse timing (Brightness) etc.

i think i need a new TCU, every now and then my wipers come on for no apparent reason…

Adam, could this TCU you talk about cause wipers not to work occasionally when they are switched to intermittent? Just a stab in the dark but whatever.

Ya both of you guys are esxperiencing TCU troubles.

I spent countless hoursing reserching this stupid POS when my gauge lights randomally stoped wotking.

I have a spare TCU if anyone wants it though i bypassed the dimmer control unit on it so the lights stay on full brightness all the time.

The FSM describes various tests you can do to ensure your unit is working (or not …)

Well the rest of my stuff works (wipers, chims, etc.)
So how hard is this TCU to replace? And what’s the cost?

BTW, First dibs on Adam’s spare TCU!

Its $220 from Nissan and its likea 5min job to replace.

Can you tell me how to bypass the TCU? Will this have any effect on
the rest of my accessories? I’ll try looking up the TCU in the FSM in the
meantime…

I didnt Bypass the TCU it self i tore it apart and re-wired it.

You can try it out at the meet on sunday, hmmm if i can find it.
