Yesterday afternoon, an HVCC student / pedestrian , was struck by a vehicle, while crossing Rt. 4,at the bus-stop/crosswalk in front of the HVCC campus at Holliday Drive . (He was crossing from the Price Chopper / Hudson Valley Plaza to our campus.)
The student suffered a head injury and is currently in serious condition, but is expected to recover.
The accident is currently under investigation by the Troy Police Department.
I wish to remind students and staff to be cautious while crossing Rt. 4. Although there is a marked crosswalk and traffic light, the road is busy with vehicles turning and going in different directions, to / from the Plaza and our campus.
· Obey the traffic control signals.
· Look both ways before crossing, even when the light is green for pedestrians.
· Be alert to your surroundings .
· Using your cell phone, even while walking, can be a serious distraction when crossing an intersection.
