Hyundai RWD platform (2010 Tiburon?)

How did Gary miss this?

Spy photos: Is this the 2010 Hyundai Tiburon?

These are the first spy photos of what looks like the 2010 Hyundai Tiburon. Expected to use Hyundai’s new rear wheel drive platform, this redesigned coupe will take many of its styling cues from the HCD8 concept shown several years ago.

Looking slightly bigger than the current Tiburon, this redesigned coupe will most likely move up a class when it goes on sale in 2009. Instead of playing in the mid-$20s segment, this Tiburon could easily move up to the high-$20s and even above $30K with the right engine.

Although this engine shot is clear, it’s not obvious what this test mule is packing under the hood. Speculation on the Hyundaiexchange forums points to an SAE paper written by several Hyundai engineers in which they tout the efficiencies of a new turbocharged, direct injection 2.0-liter. Although that makes for some interesting possibilities, the real question is whether this coupe will offer the same V8 slated for the upcoming Hyundai Genesis sedan.

This is clearly not your average Hyundai four-cylinder.
Thankfully, a true manual transmission will remain on the Tiburon’s spec sheet. Interior design looks pretty sensible although they’ll have to step it up a little if they really want to compete in the $30K range.

Dual exhaust on a four-cylinder? If Mitsubishi can do it, why not Hyundai?

neat i guess

Hmm i like the idea of a v8

Damn

awesome!

now that the Chinese may be entering the market they have to step it up. hope it turns out to be a cool car

 to the RWD, seems to be coming back in style.

hell yea it would be sick if they had a v8 option

nice

I was just at Hyundai Product Training in Pittsburgh a few days ago.

The top version of the car (as of right now) is supposed to have a v8 (somewhere between 300-340 hp) and a 6mt.

They are planning on keeping it under $30K.

Not really, I still havent seen a Chinese car get more than One Start (out of 5) on ANY international crash test. And most countries are still boycotting their cars due to their gross copyright infringment.

^^^+1

Not sure why that even came up in this thread. The Chinese aren’t bringing out a sports car.

that car could be pretty awesome. though if you can get a decently performing sports car for around a 20K price point…hello asshats.

300+HP RWD V8 != Cobalt SS

Besides, this is gonna be upper $20Ks.

The test mule has a turbo 4cyl, the Hyundai people I talked to at training said it’s gonna be a V8.

if it comes out with an version of the beta motor I may snag one and tune it quicy

When you’re living inside a boa constrictor, you tend to miss a lot

i would not drive a cobalt SS. i would however rock this all day (from my initial opinion of it). i just meant there will be a lot of tools driving these. originally i read this car would be at a low 20’s price point. upper 20’s would probaby limit the douche bags from it though.
