Ok heres the deal, its a 1989 Jeep Cheroakee 4.0, first the battery went bad, than the alternator. fixed both of them. Than it went all downhill, Fuel injectors started leaking (replaced), than the fuel pump was acting up(replaced) fuel pressure regulator (replaced), Now it will start when its cold, once it warms up and you shut it off it wont start unless you spray starting fluid in it, than it will run fine. A local shop replaced plugs, wires, dist cap and rotor, coil. its almost like somthing it cutting off the fuel supply when you shut it off. is there a trigger or something for the fuel injection system? Im lost. I fixed everything I could find wrong with it. I even took off the fuel rail after it wouldnt start and turned the key to see it it would spray fuel, and it wouldnt. Am I missing something? PLEASE HELP!!!
crank position sensor? does it get spark when not getting fuel?
On my wrangler a wire on a wiring connector to the on the fuel pump pulled 1/4 of the way out when I dropped the tank. It didnt create problems until 3 months later when some salt and water got in there to corode things, check the wiring to the fuel pump. measure the voltage getting to the pump. and as always fuses
Yeat its getting spark when not getting fuel. Do you think it could be the crank position sensor? The wiring for the fuel pump is good. I checked it likek 3tmies. thanks guy! didnt except replys so soon…
when it wont start, check for power at the pump like said before. check for injector pulse. sounds like something is heating up and shutting down, could be a computer problem even.
link: guess its a common problem?
Thats another thing, it has 38psi fuel. The manual says 39-50psi is normal. Also the fuel pump is getting power, you can hear it turn on when you turn the key… Would anyone try swapping out the CPS?
well if the pressure is low, try a fuel filter before you put a pump in it… i dont think i saw that in your list.
I forgot to list that, sorry. new fuel filter to.
Get a new pump
Got a new pump. that was in my list… 2 of them actually… well either way got it fixed. swapped out the CPS and now it runs good and starts right up… THANKS ALOT PEOPLE!!!
awesome, glad to hear you got it fixed!
Mine had trouble starting until I replaced the Camshaft Position Sensor. Easy fix and it was only $17.
