Issue resolved, now running at a nice chilly 52C as opposed to 80+. Thanks for all the negative you can’t build a water pump setup for $5 it will never work input.
95C is NOT safe for a computers core temp…
i have a AMD system thats water cooled that ill sell you cheap…
And unless it’s five dollars I’m not interested. If I had money do you think I’d still be using an old Athlon 1.33 GHz processor for gaming/vista.
Moar cringing!
I dont think it’ll make much difference. With what it would cost you in materials to do that I could get you a cheap athlon processor or see if I have one laying around that i’d donate for free.
Socket A? What motherboard is it?
EDIT : with those crazy temps you’d need a water chiller and it seems like its not worth the hassle for a processor thats on its death bed.
Socket A, if you have an Athlon 1400 or Athlon XP processor laying around I’d be interested as it’s about 2/3 years overdue for an upgrade. I have 2 extra CPU’s one being a 1200, and the other a 1400 that causes corrupt 3D graphics for some reason. Older gigabyte board that supports Anything up to the 2400+ as long as it’s 266MHz FSB. Not sure if any of the XP’s rated for a 333MHz FSB would work with it. The main issue at the moment however is just ambient air temperature. It’s been up and stable for the past 3 hours though at 82. Though technically I shouldn’t be running it past 70.
deeewww it
Note the angry sun! Its brows are furrowed denoting it is angry! Arggggg!
<3 my 3700+ runs are room temp
oh your idea doesn’t sound like a great one… one false move… your better off just using a spray bottle to cool off your box…
the sun does kick large amounts of ass though
is the case black and in the sun or something??
No it’s not black it’s not in the sun, I’m not holding a blowtorch to it, it’s 90 degrees in the room. Early athlons had heat issues out of the box normally assuimg it’s 70ish degrees in the room it will run around 65-68C under load which is just below the normal limit of 70C.
For now I’ve just dropped the FSB speed down to 100MHz, and the processor is running at a cool 54C right now. However it’s only slightly above 80 right now in the room it’s about to get much warmer.
that will work alright but try gettin a fish pump to keep the water circulated.
Buy a 10 gallon fish tank at petsmart for 9 bux, fill with baby oil or canola, and drop the motherboard in it. Someone posted seomthing like that a while ago on this board, sounds like your perfect candidate.
Well I just finished building a heat exchanger out of an old heat sink, and found a sweet capsela water pump + motor I’m in the process if mounting it to a sealed tupperware container. And will post results in a bit.
Total cost of project thus far $6, so I’m about $1 over budget.
simple answer is get an air conditioner … that way your computer AND you don’t over heat
And kids, this is why people shouldn’t work on SHO’s. It fries your brain.
UPDATE: My brother loaned me the windshield washerfluid tank from his 94 taurus, which happens to include a nifty 12VDC water pump. I’ve attached the whole tank to the side of the of my ancient case. And ran lines to the homemade water-block.
Result Currently running it at 1267MHz like it was last night, and it’s now running around 55-60C,compaired to last night where it was around 82C at the same clock speed.
Looks like I’ll be bumping the speed back up soon.
So to tally total supplies needed costs:
-Watertank/pump = Free!
-Duct-tape to hold said tank to side of computer
-Water for said tank
-1/4" diameter copper tubing ($4.10)
-Old Heatsink that could be cut-up
-4 feet of 1/4" flexable clear vinyl tubing ($2)
Pros:
-Runs nice and cool now
-No more BSoDs
-Gaming ahoy!
Cons:
-Pump is noisy
-If rednecks owned computers. You would find a picture of this beast in the dictionary.
Total money left in bank account ($35)
Price of A/C, more than I could afford pal.
I’ll post pics later it looks so fucking goofy. But for a water cooling I could use my spare change for I’m not compaining:lol:
most normal setups have a radatior and fan to cool the water bak down…you cant cycle hot water bak ova the heatsink…might want to consider that
You act as if I havn’t thought of that already.
thats why god created THESE … to cool devons redneck watercooling setup
Once you get the lower jug full then what? You need to keep it circulating, fish tank pump is a good idea. Also you need to cool the exiting water in a radiator fashion. But you ovbiously won’t be able to get it colder than the outside temperature. If you want some true cooling do something with r134 or r22. Or maybe consider some type of oil too instead of water.
