socialism is for losers that can’t carry their own weight. move or lose it… USA USA USA :steelers:
i’m not even gonna read the article, the post-gazette writers are just horrible. i’m not even talkin about stuff towards the pirates. cook, smizik are just bitter people and have no place in the sports sceen anymore.
now about the marketing. well true the fans don’t say “we want ____ bobblehead” BUT when they don’t show up for a friday game against the dodgers with no giveaway and show up on a tuesday against the brewers when they are giving away figurines they are making their views known. But alas, as much as i hate it, it is about business and not about gromming young players into stars. People seems to have old time expectaions but act in present time manners. meaning they expect the team to compeat with players raised in the farm system but don’t wanna support the cause they are complaining about, knowing that the team’s issue is money.
the burgh was a baseball town before but for over a decade of nothing but a laughing stock. its going ot take a mircale for them to gain any fans back
The Pirates need an owner willing to lose his fucking ass for a few years, not just in acquiring talent, but in marketing. Fireworks and bobble-heads will bring fans in a few games a year, but they need a new marketing strategy that draw people in. Maybe a program like Book It for elementary school kids? Or a “Free Ticket and Program Night” for each school kid in the county. They’d lose money, but in the end those kids would be bringing parents, buying snacks, buying merchandise, and developing an interest in the game.
The Pirates are running into the same problem that the comicbook industry has in getting younger fans: With video games, the internet, 300+ cable channels…who has time for hobbies? It’s really fucking sad, but it’s true. I’d bet that there’s been a significant increase in the average age of MLB game attendees in the last 20 years.
pittsburgh is a baseball town when they are winning, pittsburgh is a fan of anything when its winning. Bandwagon, PA. Just an update, 1979, last championship years for both the pirates & steelers…turning 26 this month make me relize its been 26 YEARS since either has done a thing worth talkin about.
until MLB gets a salary cap, it will remain pure shit.
steelers have done good latetly. just cause they dont win a bowl doesnt mean they didnt have a good year.
when was the last time the losers had over .500 record at the end of the season? when was the last time the losers made the playoffs?
amen but alls sports should be reduced in wages
you should read it, you don’t have to reply… it’s by Dejan Kovacevic and i’m not sure if he’s even on staff there. it’s basically not opinion, just connecting the dots finanically.
the steelers have done plenty worth talking about. they just haven’t won a super bowl.
that why you need to ask me questions, we proabably have 100’s of discounts and programs like that. If you come to a game and pay full price, you probably aren’t tryin to get a discount. there are coupons for buy one get one free for a long as the eye can see. you wouldn’t believe how complex our marketing strategy is in outlying areas and how aggressively we go after the schools, churches and groups. everything you said we already do. I think part of the problem is we give away to many free tickets.
even with free tickets no bodys wants to see losers. hell i had a hard time giving my tickets away. alot of ppl said now if it was a steeler game they would of jumped.
i dont give a fuck how much players make. Its just fucking retarded to expect the Pirates, who’s entire starting lineup costs less than A Rod’s salary. to be competative.
Imagine if you could have Tom Brady, T.O., Randy Moss, Hines Ward, LT all on one team. They’d destroy everyone else. NYC and Boston bought their championships and should take no fucking pride in them whatsoever.
yeah dejan, a guy that’s expertise is in hockey they use him to be the beat writer for the pirates… he’s laughable.
from a fans view, when your in the business to win championships anything less on the field is a failure… business wise it doens’t matter what happends as long as you make money.
no matter how you market a 10lb bag of shit, its still a 10lb bag of shit.
81 pirates games, 8 steelers games, supply and demand
what i’m saying is that they should get rid of the 50,000+ promotions they’re running simultaneously and have one or two highly advertised promos… like “Spend $200 @ Giant Eagle, get 2 free tix” or “Fill up your car @ GetGo ten times for 4 tix”
thats how i see it. i’m a baseball guy working in the business side, it makes me sick. i would do away with the nonsense.
doesnt matter no body cares to see losers. for crying out loud you have fake peroigies racing to entertain the ppl. thats sad you should have the players being able to keep fans focus. baseball is a boring sport and unless you have big names smashing homeruns into the river and etc along with winning games. no body cares
BINGO, you hit the nail on the head… me and my pops talk about this alot. Have three big programs instead of 100 little ones. me and blanyer on the same page??? :ugh:
