i think my boss just tweaked out

my boss is like the most mild mannered person i ever met, so non-confrontational. Just starts screaming that we should just take a plane over the city and start dumping pirates tickets everywhere…

i guess the years of losing are catching up to people

i’ll take some tickets if he’s givin them away

the pirates should start selling steelers tickets instead.

…cant be pissed at the ppl. they need to show some signs of building a competitive team and they havent, so they cant blame anyone but themselves…i like the pirates but i dont blame anyone for not giving a shit

well hopefully next season will be better seeing how the GM is fired…:dunno: I’d like to start going to games again, but I grew up loving them and don’t have the heart to go when I know w/ 99.99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% certainty they are going to lose. :frowning:

fire teh owners. you gotta spend money to make money and they don’t want to do that.

the Pirates are a pathetic team… The only way to build a good team is to actually invest money into them.

i can see how you feel but as an insider that not really how things are. And if you could see how people act you would damn well be pissed at them too. when have you ever seen someone yell at the ticket seller that sold them a ticket to a bad movie? pirates season ticket holders have many advantages that other teams to not give but you give someone a foot and they want a mile.

and they are building a team, got rid of mclendon’s dead weight. they have the potential to start 5 solid lefties next year, Duke, perez, burnett, etc etc… next year being an allstar year…don’t be surprized to see a big name player commin aboard next year. I think 3 out of 4 minor league teams were in the post season. thats a sign of hope.

not true…you gotta have fireworks everynight to make money… pittsburgh expects a good team but doesn;t support them unless they are giving something away. Its a vicious never ending cycle, the pirates just need a miracle season to jump start it cause they fair weather fans aren’t a big help. They can’t get good till the get good attendance and they can’t get good attendence unless they are good.

But the minor league teams have always had a good record, especially Nashville/Indianapolis at the AAA level. The talent never translates to the big leagues… Hopefully players like Duffy, Snell, Burnett, Van Benschoten, Duke, B. Eldred, Sanchez, Perez and Bay can live up to the billing that they have earned in the minor leagues and/or first year of big league ball and bring a winner back to Pittsburgh…

Also, its time to sell the team to whats his name that owns the Dallas Mavericks… ohhh, Mark Cuban… There would be no money excuses then. And you know damn well that McClatchy is turning a good profit, Cuban would be happy to break even or maybe even loose 5 mil just to know he broguht a winner back to the burgh.

Its a common business theory, you gotta spend money to make money and the Pirates just aren’t doing it.

you seem to be buyin into the company line dude. 12 years, no playoffs? whats up with that. claims he’s broke, but won’t open the books to the public even though a publicly funded park is what they call home? too many years of excuses have left ppl jaded. IMO winning is all that will bring them back.

ya the all-star game will help and everything. but i just seemed like we kept letting our veterans go when they were good and ‘promising’ that our young talent would fill in. but then as soon as they got good they were gone too. to build a team w/ young ppl, the purpose is to develop them and then hopefully they get good and continue to play for the team, not leave or get dealt away. but hopefully we r FINALLY moving in that direction

better ownership with deeper pockets = teh win

hell was giving 4 great seats. gave them away. why do i want to see a bunch of losers. like stated last time they had a good team was when bonds was here back in the early 90s. any time there is a prospect they release him or trade him

I wouldnt go if i got free tickets cause of how expensive anything is once you get inside too.

$3 for a bottle of Water? fuck that

Nhl >>>> Mlb

mark cuban just sold half of his team i believe, i think he’s having money issues. kevin only owns like 25% of the pirates. the pirates are not a porfitable team if you think they are skimpin on salary to make money its like sayin a nickel and dime dope dealer is a profitable trade. Small market team in a unlevel playing field equals not much hope. I def don’t buy into any of the crap at this place, i think our marketing is bull shit but in pittsburgh where people don’t wanna see baseball we have to do the things we do to make it a circus that people wanna come see. if MLB was like NFL i would have no reason to complain but when you go the yankees with their own network that generates 250 million and a fan base of over 10 million people in NY well thats hardly fair. you even it out and you’d have better games across the league. remember when the buccaneers was a garenteed win in the NFL, those days are long gone because of the rules they got into place. current GM is tryin to make up for bad mistakes like pat mears and derek bell. those millions of dollars wasted are hard to make up in a team that doesn’t have it to spend. garenteed contracts can bury a team like pittsburgh. everything i said about the pirates affects tons of teams like KC, milwalkee, etc

your attitude is why the pirates can’t win. Cleveland is not much different than pittsburgh except the fans go regardless and the indians have the money to spend because of it. jacobs was sold out for years and years. If the city on a grand scale doens;t support this team its never gonna win under the current state of baseball. Its not really something thats possible unless the earth and the moon and the stars line up and some freak season happends.

“It’s conceivable that somebody could just market the ballpark as having nice views of Downtown, great food and giveaways. At that point, if you can sell that, the quality of the team might not matter at all. It might not be what the fans or taxpayers of Pittsburgh want, but it’s lovely from the ownership standpoint”

the fans are buying it, but you’re selling. they’re weren’t ppl marching in the street demanding bob prince bobble heads… the bucs market and sell them as a lure

http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/05121/497194.stm good article… since they won’t open the books, they outsourced some econ profs, public info from 01, and public stats from MLB… shows a stinky team with rich owners to me. hey, bucs wanna prove them wrong, prove it… but they won’t, cause they can’t

but supporting any enterprise that fails to deliver is in direct contrast with economic darwinism, the foundation of any capitalist society. you’re practically preaching socialism.

not that I have any problem with socialism, but it IS at odds with having a perfect marketplace.
