If you didn't have to pay for it: Bold 2 or iphone?

that would be me as well…

The worst of it is that there are 3rd party apps for android that claim to be able to negotiate. I have heard rumors that some of the policy negotiation is faked though, and that the device isn’t actually encrypting the data on the phone (which the exchange server thinks it is). It’s a half-ass solution and most corporations wouldn’t want a 3rd party solution. They would want it to be native.

SRS BSNS - with an Iphone, you’ll be out.

there hasn’t been any srs business in there in so long.

Hmm…interesting.

Bold 2 screen resolution? 480x360 pixels.
iPhone screen resolution? 480x320 pixels.

Terrible on both counts. When one of these companies decide to grow up and come out with a 800+ pixel screen then I might consider one

But if I HAD to pick, I’d choose the BB.

The screen is 3.5" diagonal… how many pixels do you really think it needs? At 480x320 it’s gorgeous.

A 720p 19" widescreen has a 1440x900 resolution. Scale that down to 3.5" and you get 265x165 so 480x320 is probably overkill to be honest.

I wonder what Motorola’s unique form factor will be?

Yeah. The screen on the iPhone is gorgeous I think. I watched movies for 12 hours on it on a flight. It looked great…

When you look at an iPhone (or other 480pix wide screen) next to a device with an 800pix wide screen at the same 3.5" size, you’ll definitely notice the difference. There is no comparison.

Imagine not needing to scroll / pinch / zoom or any of that nonsense because websites, software, etc. that are designed to fit 800pix wide screens work on your phone. You wouldn’t need device specific apps (Facebook, etc.) if sites and software would work in on your device in their native form.

For example, Google wave on an 800pix wide screen: Nokia N900 can ride the Google Wave

Can’t do that on a device with half the pixels.

Personally, I work with a lot of spreadsheets on my phone and need to see as much data at once. I can only see half the cells on a Black Berry that I can on my phone. Sure you can zoom out on the BB & iPhone, but then the image / data distorts so your left needing to scroll and zoom constantly to view a given sheet. Whereas with an 800pix wide screen, I can see everything clearly.

After all, no one argues that a 32" TV in standard 480p looks anywhere near as good as the same size TV in 1080p. This fact doesn’t change when you shrink down to 3.5" screen sizes.

Higher than 800pix might be overkill for a 3.5" screen size, but if you get the chance to compare the iPhone to any 800pix screen phone, you’ll see it.

Oh hai, Google’s announced Nexus 1 has an 800pix wide screen: http://www.google.com/phone/static/en_US-nexusone_tech_specs.html

OK last thing I’ll add then I’ll put my geek away…

If you’re a real facebook whore it’s tough to beat a blackberry. The facebook app for blackberry integrates your facebook calendard and contacts with your device’s calendar and contacts. Your facebook events show up in your device calendar, if you have common contacts on your phone and facebook it will assign facebook profile pics to your phone’s contacts, update phone numbers, etc. I haven’t seen another platform that does this. iphone doesn’t, symbian doesn’t. Not sure about winmo or android?

If you’re not a facebook whore then this obviously about as important as the server side security stuff that boxxa and tom were waltering about.

ugh this has saved me SO MANY TIMES with bdays and such

I don’t know about the calendar events, but the new version of facebook for iPhone does contacts syncing. The version for android does it as well. Not sure about the calendar though.

that google phone is cool, when’s that coming out?

http://www.google.com/phone

you can order it right meow

That’s cool. Symbian e-series finally just got an official facebook app. The app works worse than just using the mobile site. :stuck_out_tongue:

newman, beware that you should check with your IT dept. first

I don’t think I’d get it, I was just curious.

Guess I’ll have to see one in person, because based on the video everything was way too small for me to ever want to use it like that.

Some people like super tiny but clear text, like my friend who loves his 15.4" laptop running at 1680x1050. Yeah, it’s a lot of real estate but I can’t stand using it for more than a few minutes because you’re squinting at everything. You can bump font sizes but that gets awkward results in different programs.

As for facebook calendar syncing this looks like it would work if you’re syncing your google calendar on your iphone.
