Problem: The two ignition relays by the drivers foot well click while driving and sometimes during idle. They click at random, whether the car is hot or cold, and they click under acceleration and no acceleration. Doubt anyone has had this problem, but any input would be nice. I’m leaning towards a short… but the car ran fine without any clicking of the relays up until recently. The clicking affects rpm obviously, idling high and low and rpm dropping while driving. Causing some stuttering under acceleration.
The car has another issue. Not sure if the relays beginning to click had something to do with this, but the car doesn’t always turn on… It always cranks and cranks hard, but doesn’t always fire. One trick I’ve found to sometimes turning it on is to unplug the CAS and have someone crank the engine and then plug the CAS back in which sometimes gets the engine to fire, and a bit of gas would get it started. But that has worked for me on only a few occasions.
Do yourself a favour and pull and inspect those relays. I would bet on one of them you find some moisture corrosion. Replace those replays. You problem will be solved
I’ve pulled the relays and they all checked out. 12V through the coil and continuity across the other two pins. Clicked and made strong contact. And for kicks I replaced them. Sorry forgot to mention that. Thanks though. Also, no moisture or corrosion on the relays or the relay block.
Jesus, I dont know what the hell happened to my post… It was long and thorough.
The gist of it, is that these two issues could very well be related. I’m going on a limb and saying that the 12v on the coils and 12v for the CAS is the same source down the line, perhaps you have a disruption in that line. If you bench tested the relays and they click strong, the only other possible cause is bad +ve or bad -ve leads. So check the grounds (thats super easy) then check continuity in the relay bottoms gradually until you reach the source. I would consult the wiring diagram (if this swap was wired well) to find the correct source for the 12v.
Sorry for the late update. Turns out it was just a bad ground that made those relays click. Thanks Osad
But the car still doesnt start all the time. But ive found that cranking the engine for 10-15 seconds will get it to fire, and then a bit of gas and it’ll turn on. Any more ideas out there? Ive got spark, ive got fuel, ive checked ALL the grounds now. Is there something that could be intermittent? As always, help is really appreciated.
