I'm terrible with a camera

or so I’ve been told.

Maybe it’s just my preferences, but a lot of the pictures I take, like how they turn out. Even if they’re not exactly what I’m looking for.

give me your opinions.
what pictures do you like? and what ones don’t you like?
any specific reasons as to why, or how they’re bad?
be as brutal as you like. I know you wanna do it.

also, just as a sidenote, none of these pictures have been altered between me pressing the button on the camera and posting them on here.

I’ll add more as I come across the ones I like.

the moving ones i do not like but i do like the ones of the Z

Your photos just piss me off because its just simple operator error. Seriously every single one of your photos that i have seen has been botched because your settings where out in left field. Im mean honestly im kinda at a loss for words, I know plenty of people who shoot SLR’s that know nothing about photography, and still manage a properly good snapshot. Not that it really matters, but every photo posted above (except maybe the first) is either out of focus or under-exposed. Id start with composure tips and such, but you need to learn how to use a camera first. I believe I posted the Ken Rockwell guide in another of your threads, but I’ll post it once again. It covers the very basics and Id suggest reading it throughly before shooting any more.

The last one is the only one I think has potential (PS pending). I’m no photography expert myself but the Z pictures are way too dark. The action shots are not real great.

LOL The last one is such a silly noob angle, that provides no photographic value what so ever.

Your moving shots you need to learn to pan better or up the shutter speed, freeze the action.

The other shots seem very under exposed. I like so idea of them but they need a little more exposure or less shadows. If you were shooting later in the day, I’d shoot with a longer/slower shutter speed to get a little more light into the photos.

What camera are you using? Do you have post processing software? It’s a good start, keep working at it.

Edit: just looked at your exif data. Shooting with a D60, I’ve got a D40, so we’re basically shooting with the same thing.

On the action shots, 1/50 and 1/60 (looks like 50 and 60 on the lcd) is too slow for those cars/bikes. To get less blur, try upping it to 200, then shooting. If it’s still blurry, go faster. Even at that speed you can still get a bit of background blur by panning. Set your focus bracket to the center one so the camera doesn’t accidentally focus on something else.

On the stills, 400 is too fast a shutter speed. No need for it, slow it down. If you don’t know what to pick, try shooting in one of the programmed modes on the camera, like Aperture mode. This way the camera will choose the correct shutter speed and you can pick what aperture (f/stop) you want. Experiment with that.

Keep the iso low, you have it at 200 which is the lowest the D60 will go I think? If not, change it to 100 if it has it.

Other than that, pick up a Field Guide for your camera, pick up others that explain how to use your camera in different situations. Play around with it, learn a bit.

All I got.
