that’s the thing: it’s NOT everything or nothing. there’s currently standards in place on cable that no one has bitched about since now. i’m not saying to repeal those.
By your logic, the government should take away your Type-R. There’s a chance your kid could take it and kill himself. They might as well chip all cars to cut the fuel off at 65mph, right?
Until you have kids you cannot say what you will do when you have them. I thought I would change a lot and monitor everything my kids do, but I don’t. I could care less what they watch and hear, they are going to see it anyway, I might as well be there when they first see it to explain it to them. me and the wife were looking at a playboy over my friends house(for the articles ) and my 3 year old was right there saying “look dady, a naked girl”, he doesn’t see it as something obscene and he shouldn’t, it’s part of human nature. As far as swear words, he knows a good deal from being there when I work on my truck, but he knows they are bad and not to say them. When we watch a violent movie or something with language, he laughs and says “daddy, he said a bad word”. We even :gasp: watched the spuerbowl show with Janet, and guess what, my son is just fine. People need to lighten the fuck up. I feel bad for the kids who are sheltered until they are 16 and then go fucking crazy because they are seeing and hearing all of this “obscene:” stuff for the first time. remember the catholic school girls when the first came to a public school, I do? :naughty:
to the people whe are for censorship - your kids WILL see and hear this stuff and there is nothing you can do about it. You might as well be the ones to tell them if it is good or bad instead of their peers, who we know will not have the same morals as you do.
I think they should just stick the profanity and nudity to the premium channels. And late night television should stay how it is late at night. I mean if you don’t know your kids are watching tv late at night what kind of parents are you? They should be in bed by the time late night shows come on. I don’t think they should sensor anything personally. But thats just my opinion. I mean reguardless of the age kids will get ahold of just about anything. All this censorship is pointless for the simple fact there will always be those parents that let there kids have friends over and watch that stuff anyhow.
Ditto…I cuss too, but I dont want my daughter watching Cartoons and then all of a sudden Barney is using the F-bomb…and unfortunately thats what this is all coming too. I remember a few years back when you COULD’NT cuss on TV or radio…you all survived that, right? Whats the big deal if they censor stuff, if it was censored 6 years ago? And I hate to tell ya, your a bad parent if you AREN’T against censoring. If i am paying for cable, I sure as hell wont be paying for a “V-chip” too. If you want to hear cussing (not sure why you would WANT to hear it) then go pay for a chip that allows you to hear it.
I’m sorry but your example of baney droping the f bomb is a bit extreme. First off watch TV during the day and see how many obcenities are being used on stations that have “kids programing” or any station for that matter aside from Movie channels. It doesn’t happen. Current standards requried a time of after 9 or 10 pm for it to start stepping up the notch. If your kids are up that late watching TV you should ask your self first Why and two what are they watching that late. So in tern it falls back on you as a parent.
For you to say that everything should be censored and strick because you don;t want kid to see it is basically saying “I’m lazy and don;t have time to monitor my kid or teach him right from wrong.”
If you can’t teach you child as stated by Redneck77, then you shouldn’t have kids period. What next? You going to try and sensor schools? Is evey kid going to have to be home schooled so they can be shielded from such stuff? Just think about what you lerned in school outside of the classrooms and see if it is any worse or better. Everyone growing up is subjected to peers and surroundings in school that involve drugs, smoking, drinking, sex and so forth. Just because its put in front of your kid doesn;t mean they are automatically going to start doing it. It is all on what you teach your kids, not on how much you can censor them from.
Second If I’m paying for HBO or extended channels your lack of guidance to you child shouldn’t be my burned when I’m forking out the money. I’ll tell you what you pay my satallite bill, Siruis bill, and so forth with out being late and you can tell me what I can and can’t watch. Until that happends disipline and teach your kids instead of having others do it on behalf of your lazyness.
anything you pay for should not be censored…if you have it do your job @ parent…
if its free like over the air TV (network TV) & radio then i can understand…not that i agree but i can understand.
It all comes down to parenting…PEROID!
like i said before, my mom let me watch whatever i wanted as a kid, took me to see R movies if I asked, etc… She would tell me what was right & wrong & i knew how to act. I didn’t go to school and drop F-bombs to my teachers, etc…
now for all the people who taked about daytime TV & how there shouldn’t be suggestive material/language on there…
it already is…have you seen a soap opera lately?? My wife watches that crap on the Soap channel. It replays the days shows for people who can’t watch during the day.
you can’t get any more suggestive then that…its as bad or worse than any onther nighttime network show.
your suposed to censor it or teach them right & wrong…THATS BEING A PARENT.
and second of your paying for cable & or dish most of that stuff comes with built in protection… you can password block certain channels, rating block channels, etc… and the fact that you don’t know if your setup has it shows something right there??
I don’t even have kids yet & know that my direct TV setup can block whatever i want.
well alot of this argument is being skewed… i mean, everyone jumped on me as if i’m for censorship… which i’m really not… i just admit that there is no reason to swear on basic cable’s line up for the average consumer… showtime / hbo/skinamax are different… and so is extened cable IMO. this bill was NOT written to blanket down to free channels… it was for basic cable… but that’s the bitch with politics… they can’t just write a bill that only concerns basic cable from say 6am - 8pm and allow some swearing so forth…
as soon as it’s proposed, it becomes a political battle with two extremes… look at what we’re arguing over at this point… i know i started it wtih the kraft remark, but barney isn’t going to tell your kids to fuck off and they aren’t going to take ‘damn’ out of every HBO movie.
i’d say one thing that irratates me more than fucking swearing is the fact that shows have the shame to censor ‘god damn’… and the assholes censor ‘*** damn’ … tell me we don’t live in a shitty time when they censor god over a ‘swear word’ …
they don’t censor “god” for the reason you think. “goddamn” is considered more vulgar than “damn” because it invokes “taking the lord’s name in vain”. they don’t do it for the P.C. police. take the following:
“i hate that goddamn prick.”
currently, they’d censor it like this:
“i hate that damn prick.”
would you rather they censor the ‘damn’ half and be left with:
sonny you got jumped on because for a split second you appeared right wing… when you were just reasonable and polite. voting owns, TV will be just as it is. it’s just a bill, if it ever does pass more than likely it will just be an addendum to current fcc regulations and not an overhaul of tv and radio. when’s the last time anything drastic ever happened in congress :dunno: no reason to get worked up over nothing.
i know what you mean…but still the fact that people in congress & on here think its a good thing or are ok with it anoys my…
if i’m paying for it…leave it alone…peroid
cable/dish & satilite radio came out to go beyond regular network TV & radio…offer broader range of shows & to be a little more edgy…so let just say this passes…
is ther gonna be another thing that comes out that takes it to another level…like a new dish company/satillte radio company that offers “un cehsored stuff”…it rediculous.
and as fas as not swearing not being nessasary…i disagree
shut the fuck up bitch…is a lot different then shut up.
there is a reason why i don’t watch movie that are played on network tv or tbs/tnt etc…
