Installing deck

I’m installing a deck and there are seperate instructions for more than 10A and less than 10A…so what im wondering is what a 90 240 would be…I’m also not sure what A stands for and I’m thinking it’s amperes…so is it…or isn’t it???

nevermind i realized what it is and found it…dumb question…my bad…

No problem… Anything else before i get rid of the thread?

uhhh there might be something tomorrow when I’m sure i wont be able to install it…so leave it up for now…

A = amps.

No deck should draw more then 10A!!!

well thats just what i was reading in the manual…ours is 10…im sure its possible just not common, but if you’d care to enlighten me as to why not…go ahead…

Man don’t worrie about it, Installing a deck in a s13 is probbley one of the easyest and least complex cars,

just match your wires propperly and you will be fine.

The only thing you gotta worry about thats diff is… there is 2 remote wires you gotta use or the rear speakers wont work. Another heads up is… dont use the ground on the car, (black wires) because it coming from the antena. I would ground the wires myself if were you.

But it is very easy…

In terms of 10 amps… Im not sure if they do or not, but what I do know if you are using an Alpine deck with the V-Drive system, and you use the internal amps you have to ground the wires properly b/c the deck will shut down.

I wasn’t all that worried about the deck…i got it in fine and it sounds great…I still don’t know why a deck cant be more than 10 A…so im kind of curious…the deck is the Pioneer DEH-P80MP…it pumps 60x4 watts instead of the regular 45-52 and once i got it in there i find that there is a great improvement…anyways if anyone feels like it…tell me why no more than 10 A

Easy.
60w*4 = 240W.

But that’s not real power, that’s PEAK power measured with crazy distortion at 14.4V.
Real RMS power is more like 30WX4 at 14.4V (which is more voltage then it will ever see in your car … so it’s still inflated … and still with distortion).

So 30W*4 = 120W
Throw in maybe 20W (generous) for the deck itself.
P = VI so I = P/V
I = 140W / 14.4V
I = 9.7A

So even a ‘high powered’ deck (and using very generous specs) will only draw about 9.7A. More realistically while using the deck at a volume that doesn’t sound like crap as the speakers distort (which will also destroy your speakers very quickly by the way … distortion kills, not power) you will draw from 5 to 7 amps.

Anyway it will definetly be an improvement over the stock deck, and you have certainly found a very nice deck … where did you pick it up? As far as I can tell it’s only avaliable in Europe.
I had to grab the specs from here.

If you want real power though think about an external amp. There is a reason why amps that make a lot of power are huge and have giant heat sinks (not to meantion weigh a ton).

Hope that helps :slight_smile:

You are not going to really find a deck that is going to run more then 20watt rms. there are a select few that will hit 25 but still. most people run between 15 and 20.

That is why I beleve in the goold old 4ch amp.

makes a very very very difference. as well as amps and subs like the ones I want to sell :slight_smile:

sorry, self plug.

That deck is readily available in Canada…i grabbed mine new from a buddy of mine new for a really cheap price…but you can pretty much pick it up at best buy or wherever…
