intake discussion

The headlight covers with the holes in them don’t really let much air go through at all, if you ever actually saw one you would see what I mean. There is not a big space behind the hole in the headlight cover either, so odds are the small amount of air that is getting through will be heated before it makes it to the intake.

To see the most benefit, like Paul said, you should run the intake to somewhere low, outside of the engine bay, perhaps in the fender…

Edit: The one you posted has a bit of a bigger opening than most I have seen, but I still don’t think you will feel the improvement, it seems more cosmetic to me.

Fair enough, so 3" PVC, seal with magic tape, run it to the bumper. Where is that magic tape stuff sold? Would a place like Home Depot carry it, or is it more of a specialty thing?

Just use duct tape.

Beat me to it. Duct tape works great for this type of stuff.

duct tape does work well, magic tape looks cleaner though, thats the only difference. sold at CT. i wrapped the magic tape around the maf, so the diameter matched the 3" piping. if u have an s13, i think the diameter is smaller on the s13 maf (at least it seemed that way when i bought one, still got it too, $50 for a s13 maf).

bring your maf to home depot (thats what i did) when u buy the piping. maybe 2.5" will work better, u can deciede, although 3" allows more air to flow

it dosent matter how big you make the pipe, the pipe could be 10" but the maf opening is only like 2.5" and then the actual inlet of the maf is like 2" maybe 1.75

I need to bust out my fluids book and calculate it through, I know that an increase from 2.5" from 3" doubles your airflow, however there are also massive losses associated with a diameter change. Ideally speaking, the pipe should be as smooth as possible and have flange type connections. Also, the losses from a turn aren’t very large if the radius of curvature is decently high. Well, I’m gonna see what I have to work with when the time comes, and calculate exactly what type of piping is best for these purposes.

you ladies do not drive jgtc cars.

grab some pipe… conect the shit up. and drive.

if you dont think theres enough airflow grab a dryer duct and pipe teh shit down below the car for more flow to the cone.

bada bing.

Okay to sum up, the cone really isn’t going to make a KA anything it isn’t. NA KA is wood. Pull your intake resonator and call it a day. Save your pennies for a turbo.
