My Dad has his 1990 Integra race car in my garage and cannot get the tranny and motor mounts to line up for installation. The mounts at the front and sides of the engine are fairly easy, but he cannot get the tranny mount at the rear of the engine to line up. Is there a trick or proper sequence to doing this? It really shouldn’t be this hard to get the new motor and tranny back into the car, but it is really fighting us.
Is it the same motor and tranny you pulled out and are just reinstalling?
Yes, same motor and tranny. Just rebuilt.
I have done this a number of different ways.
I have put in the motor with just the 2 side mounts and then put the rear bracket on and attached it to the mount when the motor was already in the car.
I have also done it by attaching the driver side and rear mounts first then jacking the tranny up and attaching the tranny mount with the motor in the car.
It’s hard to get it in with all the mounts on but not impossible.
Put the driver and rear mount on. Install engine and put the bolts in finger tight.
Then Jack the transmission up and put the mount in for that and install
We were trying to install it with everything attached the motor, tranny and mounts. That’s probably why it was such a cluster f*ck.
we did this on jackstands in pittsburg… what 93dx said…
yea dont tighten anything down until theyre all in. Ive always pulled motor and trans together in my car, actually i started pulling together then taking trans off to work on the trans.
