Intercooler Question

Could you intercool your engine without a turbo?

I understand how they work but is there anyway you could manage it? (or is the lack of pressure going to stop it? would you need like 3 eltronic supers in a row just to make it work?)

…um…Why would you want to do this??? But yes you can intercool it…But why???

Since the air is already at or close to ambiant there would be no cooling effect from an intercooler.

An intercooler can only cool to a few degree’s above ambiant. So the HOT air from the turbo can be cooled but the air on a hot day will only be the same temp as before.

EDIT:unless you spary water or N20 on it

Long story shot
yes you can do it
No you will not gain power
You will probably loose some due to the restrictive design.

but you’d gain a car that looked like it was turboed! :E

Their would be no point whatsoever to doing something like this, spend the money, the time, and the effort on something of benefit.

That’s why you need THE INTERFOOLER

Thanks, just wondering if i would be any gain…

Just bouncing an idea off the group

Also, can you turbo your engine without an intercooler or is it another dont do it ideas?

I mean the newer diesel rams do have turbos, but no intercooler (am aware that it is an different design than what i have) but can it be done?

Umm all dodge diesles 92+ a least have an intercooler.

you can do a turbo with no intercooler but you are limited to about 5 PSI and you run a higher risk of detonation.

Yup, all new diesel trucks have big ass intercoolers. They just don’t show them off like the import guys do.

I see… again i’m confused

Key words “big ass”. Honestly they’re enormous… my boss’s stock intercooler has gotta be a couple of feet tall, a couple of feet wide, and at least 3" thick. They’re painted black though, so sometimes they look like radiators.

and they are usualy 1 inch infront of the rad under the front rad support so you can’t see them. they are also behind the AC condensor as well.
