Oh ok, I remember hearing about this a while ago and Amazon has been doing this for alot longer than a year or so.
Any company that has retail stores in NYS or affiliates in NYS and the product gets shipped to you from there, it is considered as if you bought it at the store yourself so you then have to pay NYS sales tax.
So if you were to purchase from walmart.com you would still pay the sales tax etc. because there are walmarts in ny. This isn’t new, it’s just being enforced.
Companies like amazon and Newegg use stores all over the country as their own inventory so if someone places an order, it gets shipped from the closest store that has it in stock. It’s a smart idea but now the state wants their cut.
