CHICAGO, IL, United States (UPI) – Despite being just 5-years-old, Apple Computer`s iPod may see drastic changes in 2006 with a bigger screen and new touch-screen click wheel.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports the new 6G iPod will be introduced at the Macworld Expo in San Francisco April 1, marking the 30th anniversary of Apple.
Videos were just introduced to the iPod and so many have been sold since 2001 it seemingly surpasses the hype around the Sony Walkman, but Apple is going to make changes.
The current 2 1/2-inch screen will now be the entire face and the click wheel selection unit will be a touch screen embedded in the device.
More than 42 million iPods have been sold since 2001, including 30 million in 2005.
Another 24 million are expected to be sold this year and Needham & Co. predicts that by 2008, 100 million Windows users will have an iPod.
I’ve never really saw the point in buying one of these things. Everyone’s got them, even my 10 year old cousin. I guess i just don’t need to add background music every day in my life. And if i do feel the need, i’ve got a walkman for that.old school.
I love mine because I no longer need to carry 100+ CD’s in my car, in my house, anywhere… All my 3200 songs are with me wherever I go, no need to go searching through CD’s if I know what I want to listen to I can find it easily, if not… I let shuffle do the magic.
Why do they change? Because people keep buying them. If they were still the same 5gb b&W screen that they were when they first came out then those ppl who still had their orrig ones would have no problems keeping theirs… but I know and have seen people who every christmas get a new one because they want the latest features. In order to keep up with the changing pace of technology, competitors, and keep people buying new ones than they have to change it.
I love, love, LOVE my ipod! i wasn’t sold on them until they came out with the color screen video one that holds all my photos and my songs too. i use it when i walk to class, take the bus to south campus, at home connected to speakers, and at the gym.
I thought this would be newsworthy but looks like someone is just fucking around. Macworld Expo happens every Jan (I was there) not April, and there is most defnitely no Macworld Expo happening on April Fool’s day.
apple products seem to get worse in quality as they get “prettier”
sold my imac (kept crashing). one ipod down, on my second. wouldn’t be likely to buy another. my gf has the latest one out and it’s always crashing on her.
are the april fool jokes starting already? making the screen the whole face is a pretty big step. i’d think they would milk the video option for a bit longer.
evne if its not true, it wouldnt suprise me if they were to come out with something like this very soon. the technology is deffinately there. so, pretty much this is gonna be like a apple PDA that u can play and store music on?
