Nations having small nuclear weapon programs, even semi crazy ones like Iran, aren’t a big deal. Nations don’t dare use them because they know a nuclear response would completely remove them from the map for the next 10000 years.
The danger is someone like Iran is just crazy enough to let one fall into the hands of a fanatic and think they can claim ignorance when it gets used.
Then when it gets used the US will use it as justification to take over a major oil exporting country. In fact the US may even use one on itself and blame Iran to justify a war for oil.
It’s just a shame that the intelligence was so bad in the beginning of the Bush years. Turns out there is no oil in Afghanistan.

Plans for a large gas pipeline from Turkmenistan were in the works at the time and it’s a foot hold into another area of the world such as Pakistan, who does have nukes and an out of control social structure. Easy way to keep an eye on the Chinese, not that we don’t have satellites for that either 
Besides, we wouldn’t use one on ourselves. MI-6 would make it happen though and it would be in Israel.

Th difference is we completely destroyed any chance Iraq had of defending itself before hand. We spent 10 years bombing the crap out of them and not allowing anyone to trade, destroying their economy. Iran is is better shape, so an attack as “simple” as the iraq one would be impossible.
