I think some of you are in complete denial…seriously
Most people have this “image” in their heads of what a club is…they have that stereotype in mind…the old screwballs in their trailer queen 61 olds, listening to doowop every week in the same parking lot all summer, wearing their nylon jackets, or the ones you see in “Lowrider”, all hispanic kids with their huge id plaques on their beans and rice Monte Carlos, chrome wires, 22" spinners, and neon lights everywhere…
most of us come from different backgrounds, but we all like our cars, like to modify/fix them (ok, so some of us need to do that just to get to work) American Muscle, Japanese, Korean, German, we’re all here, and we all just happen to live in the same area…so that kind of makes this a “regional” club…So…getting together, just to BS, running into each other at a Test N’ Tune, an autocross, open track day, the custom car show in Feb., “Pittspeed” picnics, etc…
It’s all gay if all of a sudden the “club” tag is attached? “self loathing” does come to mind…
no fucking way is pittspeed a “club”.
pittspeed evolved from pastreetracing.org where everyone from pittsburgh basically harassed the shit out of the philly section, who happened to own the website. Therefore, pgh side got deleted. This was back in the day when we posted locations/times to meet up and actually race.
Pittspeed rose from pastreetracing.org’s ashes to give us a website to continue to race our cars setup grudge matcghes, etc.
However, Pittspeed’s focus has shifted more towardf “legal” events. Thus, the coverage of such events. It aint like people are going out of their way to cover this shit, they are allready going there and are taking pics/info from the event to post on a WEBSITE-NOT A CAR CLUB NEWSLETTER.
Pittspeed peopel do on occasion meet up and eat food/kick back. Hell, we did that back in the pastreetracing.org days. Usually then, it was meet up and eat dinner until midnight, then go race. Now, people in like areas meet up and go eat on ocassion. I know for a while- actually before is tarted building my car–, i was going w/ pewter/frankie, lou and some hybrid guys to eat pizza wings on tuesday nights at the paint room. That does not mean we were a club.
Just because you meet up w/ friends to eat dinner, that does not mean you are in a club. A club usually has dues, some sort of rank and file, more organization.
Pittspeed is a website that lets you voice your opinion. VWVORTEX is not a club. VWSPORT is not a club, although the hardcore vw section can be deemed as one because only people who get in are people who meet the timeslip requrements.
In general, i find clubs to be stupid. To me, a club is nothing more than show cars. If anything, pittspeed is a race team-- a team that is comprised of many different brands of cars.
oh yeah, and for those of you who say street racing is not setup on pittspeed anymore-- you are wrong. You just can’t see it.
