ISP Speed Test / Satisfaction

F that.

instead of $35 discount to keep me from going to Comcast, they should try to provide the service. Haven’t they been putting in fiber optic cables for 10+ years?

They have been installing and using fiber in some applications for a long time now (downtown/urban areas with big business and hospitals etc) but Laying the fiber for residential use in new areas is crazy expensive. Its going to be a monumental project to run all new cables from every central office to every end user on the whole network. In many areas its just not economically feasible to do right now (and may never be).

They target the areas that will cost the least to put in and generate the most revenue to keep the project going first. Sometimes that means that even though areas close to you have it doesn’t necessarily mean you will get it. For instance My parents house is only about 3 miles away from me in Fox Chapel Borough and they are fiber capable but my neighborhood in O’Hara Twp is not.
