That is my work connection.
I see that the router was delivered today. when I get home i’ll set it up real quick and see if things work.
Hopefully my dsl will be back up to what its suppose to be ( verizon guy told me around 1.5MB/sec) if not then I guess im gonna have to have someone come out to the house and check things over
Why don’t you want fios? Its about 1000000x better than DSL. I work for VZ but even I choose comcast over dsl service.
If you really want dsl you should still be able to order it if you are adamant about it. When you are in a fios capable area and call in you go to the fios dept and talk to a rep like me who’s number 1 priority is to try to sell you fios (or else face the consequences if anyone is listening to us lol).
If you want I can check your address and see if I can place a dsl speed upgrade order for you. The crappy part about dsl is that you have to buy the modems unlike fios where they are provided as part of the service.
I speed tested at work today and this is what I get there:
I got a free replacement router/modem from verizon. its the westel 7500
the rep today was telling me that Im on the 1.5mb/sec plan with DSL, and I am $18,000 away from their equipment ( im guessing that a hub or something along those Lines?) He said that even tho im suppose to get 1.5mb download i “could” be getting only 500-700kb/sec because of how far I am away from the “equipment”.
He said I could downgrade to a 768kb plan and that could get me around 800-900kb/sec… I dunno what hes talking about that…
Im paying $33.00 a month for DSL, for Fios Im lookin what? $38/mo 40/mo? then it jacks up after a year to something like 60.xx?
heres my speeds right now after the replacement/upgrade router (westell 7500)
I’m payin’ $37.99/month & my bill don’t say what plan I have. I have n’t had any more time to deal with this, but I want to upgrade to the 7.1kbps plan if I can. If fios is only $40/month then it’s a win/win. I will call them tomorrow if I get a chance.
call 1800-305-1094
thats verizon DSL tech support ( the number they normally dont give out) no sitting on hold or pressing buttons to talk to someone. 1-2 rings and a real person picks up. they can tell you what speed plan you have.
Im considering fios but I gotta call up and see how much it would be and if the price changes at all
I called the number above, but they really couldn’t help me. I got transferred to someone that I couldn’t understand, so I got pissed. Then I was transferred to ‘Consumer Solutions’ & they took care of me. They told me that 1.5Mbps is the fastest speed in my area, but they put me on a 3Mbps plan to try. I can change to the lower plan if I don’t see higher than 1.5Mbps. Here is what I got as of now. They told me it may take a day or so to see the higher speed. It looks like maybe the 1.5Mbps is the best I can do for now. Seems marginally quicker already.
cool hope you work something out
verizon guy just left… Im far away from their systems, Im at 18,000 feet or a little over…
so I have been paying for 1.5mb service for 5 years and only getting like 768kb service
what he did was called in and lowered my speed plan to around 800kb or whatever it is. now when I run the speedtest it will go straight up to the speed shown and stay there. before when I did it the needle would bounce around like crazy.
I think I may go with fios. I called like 6 months ago and with our bundle it would be $10 cheaper a month
Yeah 18,000 feet from the central office is pretty much the loop length limit for DSL service.
You can get 10/2 fios data for $42.99/mo if you have any vz land line and sign up for a year. You can also sign up for a discount bundle with freedom essentials and/or fios tv for more discounts.
I called about that.
to keep our current direct tv but add the freedom essentials phone and fios
unlimited calling to US & Canada and 20MB/15MB fios.
it will be $155.24/mo which is just about what we’re paying now or could be like $10 cheaper.
will be $20 cheaper for 3 months due to new fios being added. and the will do a DSL migration credit so the activation will be waived ( $39.99 )
you work for verizon right? think you could hook me up a little more?
paNX2K&SE-R: any idea when fios will be available in Hempfield Twp?
This 1.5Mbps is marginally faster & I have yet to see true 1.5Mbps, on a 3.0 Mbps plan. I’m going to lower the plan tomorrow, but I’d like to see much faster speeds. Might be time to go with Comcast.
Yes I work for Verizon, I’m a fios rep. There aren’t any special deals we can do in the sales/service dept but the retention dept can offer $35 off per month credits, especially if you might be thinking about switching to comcast (wink). Are you under a DirecTV contract? They are usually only for 18 or 24 months depending on which receivers you went with. If you aren’t under a contract and have fios tv in your area I’d go with a triple. Yeah there is a 2 for 1 special right now where you pay the std price for VFE which is 49.99/mo + txs and surcharges and you get 10/2 or 20/5 fios data free for 3 months. After that its a standard double which is 69.99/mo (10/2) or 79.99/mo (20/5) + txs and surcharges. Thats correct about the fios data activation fee being waived for DSL customers migrating to fios.
I haven’t heard anything about fios roll out plans for that area. I agree you would probably be better off only paying for the 1M speed (used to be called 768k) since the 3M service you have is only giving you 1.5M (pretty common in rural areas).
I’m in a plan, not really a ‘rural’ area per se. There is housing plans all around me here & some are pretty expensive homes. I would think this would be their target customers for this service. Plus I am only a mile off of rte 30. Seems kinda crazy that I was watching something on TV Sunday & saw at least 10 Verizon fios commercials, yet I cannot get it, nor is it available in too many places. Who are they advertising to?
It ain’t like I live in the sticks or somethin’.
I get flyers for FiOS all the time and the TV isn’t available to me. I live 2 miles from downtown Pittsburgh. I heard they’re just blanketing the area to generate the calls and telling the customers to continue to call and find out about the service.
