The national debt has gone up 4X what it was in the past year

We’ve been over this before.

I think he meant because since Obama has become our president, the national debt has quadrupled, we have the highest unemployment rate since the depression, and the government is taking control of private sector business, which it has no right at all to do.

And therein lies the problem. It’s not that you should trust the government. Nobody should ever trust their government. It’s that so many people spew their favorite rhetoric despite having no idea what the facts are.
