Try finding a career outside your major and having no contacts, it’s a god damn riot.
I’d hire you due to your undying hatred of all things VW. Fuck, I’d even jump in your Miata and we could go get some fruity mixed drinks on lunch break
Haha. Try marketing yourself as a former technology teacher applying to…well, anything at this point.
Head-Hunter/Recruiters are great for this. They can be very useful; just keep organized so multiple ones don’t send your resumes to the same places.
I assume it goes without say, but find companies in the area that might have openings and apply directly.
For example, I’m sure Syracuse University has an employment web page. Check with them. See a sign for a big construction job? Google the company building it. See a big office building? Find out who manages it.
Your wife must have some school contacts from her searches. Use them.
Lol now try adding 25+ years experience on to that…My aunt will never get hired again.
If you are trying to get your foot in the door, take a temp job off Monster or something and get into the field. Use that time to network with other people and see who else is hiring.
You’re dense if you think Monster is good for anything. Want to sell fucking knives? Monster is where it’s at. Just like all those fucking stupid flyers on college campus around spring break time “Wanna make $1000 a day?!” Yes, when I think of making $1000 a day, I look to the world of Vector and their shit knives. Or, financial planning. Monster is littered with shit offers from financial planning firms. “Fucking cold call for 12 hours a day trying to set shit appointments trying to get people to fucking buy shit life insurance policies from you because that’s where we make the most commission!!!” I mean, I just sit bye my phone ALL FUCKING DAY waiting for some fucking half wit fuck to cold call me and pitch me investment strategies. FUCK, WON’T SOMEONE COLD FUCKING CALL ME AND TELL ME WHAT TO DO WITH THIS STACK OF CASH I HAVE HERE? If it’s listed on Monster, it fucking blows moose cock.
I don’t know what field you are in but if you have a decent resume on there, there is a ton of good calls you get. Having some liberal arts degree and years of experience as a fast food employee won’t get you much but there is a lot of solid jobs in good fields on there.
You need to weed out some of the jobs obviously. Read them tho and see what they offer, contract to hire or direct hire, the company that is doing the recruiting, etc. Also, if a recruiter is looking for one job and finds you, their data base may match you with other jobs too.
Yea I get a lot of calls from my resume being on Monster…
Check the other places I listed in my previous post.
Find a job -> Make connections/Network -> Move up
I still get emails and calls from my 4 year old resume on monster/career builder/dice/etc… It’s nuts.
What I would try is, look on LinkedIn, find a good posting then find someone on LinkedIn who works at that company doing recruiting/hr/hiring manager and send them a personable message that you’d appreciate the chance to discuss the posting.
