Judge Smacks Down the RIAA

I don’t know the case, so was she illegally downloading, or caught sharing her files? That would make a huge difference in the damage amount.

Stealing a 70 cent song = 70 cents lost.
Putting a 70 cent song in your shared files, and letting millions of net users access it = much more loss.

I still find it funny how people blame the RIAA for their problems. The songs are copyrighted works. You are getting them for free, and serving them up for others to get for free. That’s illegal. Just because we all loved looking the other way and using the old free Napster did not make it any more legal.

Is the RIAA being a little heavy handed? Sure. But to quote the movie Liar Liar, my advice to avoid all of it… “STOP BREAKING THE LAW ASSHOLE!”

Good the RIAA sucks.

man, the RIAA pisses me off to no end… They’re never going to stop it, they should instead focus their efforts on prevention (which, honestly… will NEVER stop it either)

they’re fighting a battle they will never win

A little??? Claiming over 1000x the cost of loss isn’t a LITTLE heavy handed.
