Just bought a 2001 Jetta

I know i posted a while ago about an a4 but i found a 2001 VW Jetta 1.8t Wolfsberg edition. I have to say i really like the car. It has around 50,000 miles on it and just some cosmetic things that needs to be fixed (2 small dents in hood and scratch on one interior piece). I was wondering if there is anything that i should check for which could be a usual problem. I was also wondering if people could recommend some mods i should do. I don’t want to know i should get intake exhaust etc… i mean like should i get a _____ brand air intake with a greddy exhaust or something like that. Im picking up the car Monday or Tuesday so i will have pics then. Please do not post anything like you hate vw’s or they break all the time. I bought it and im not going back. Thanks for any help

here is the autotrader ad Jetta

Usual Problems.
-Sludge
-Timing belts that fail at 70,xxx
-Coil Packs

-Brake Lights

-Save money for all the shit that will break

 on the new purchase

i would like one for a DD, idk if i would mod a 1.8t?

You can mod your 1.8t easier and make it faster than a VRsiqqq easily

But it will never sound as good

Or you can get a VR and S/C it:pimp:

I love my VR, it’s just too slow.

Congrats on your purchase.

idk the fact that i went to Hs with a kid that had a 1.8T jetta with some mods and i WALKED him with my shitty stock mustang GT… that didnt show me much…but, my friend from Ithaca had a sick golf with a forged motor and a turbo, but it got hammered by a dump truck… he just bought a 2000 Honda S2000 that he is going to turbo tho.

K04 upgrade turbo, flash tune, fmic. They are mad comfortable and fun to drive.
You could make a decent amount of power out of one. I kept up with a GT one night, and I’ve been walked by a 1.8 so I guess it all depends.

i have to say the VR6 does have quite a nice sound to it

i mostly got the 1.8t for the amazing gas mileage. And i also thought it would be cheaper to mod it. Im not trying to do much right now with it though, i need to catch up on my bills then hopefully ill start buying small upgrades.

it takes a blown vr to walk gt mustangs =), I kind of miss it. But i dont miss the non stop check engine light ha. Do minor bolt ons; chip, exhaust and intake and just drive it.

I still kick myself for not buying your supercharger :[

chip/ fmic/ intake/ exhaust/ lowering spring. chip should be the 1st mod. it makes it faster than intake and exhaust. you can switch it back to stock mod on the chip. my buddy has a chip like that

the 2001’s came with 150HP stock.
get a reflash first. (giac apr ect) they are quite pricy but it’s the most bang for your buck. And if you keep off the go pedal you can gain a few mpgs
I had a 2002 with giac reflash, abd frontmount, no name intake, and a forge DV (the stock ones will leak if you crank up the boost)

My car was good for i’d say about 200fwhp, I beat a mustang gt in it as well as a modded 3kgt(non turbo)
and I still got about 28mpg average driving.

Highway mpg is really good you’ll be up around 32.

I never had a problem with my VW’s…i’ve owned 3. I must be lucky i guess.

grats on the jetta man!! enjoy it. my buddy cky89 loves his.
