Know anything about NC? Raleigh? Fayetteville?

We live on the border of garner and raleigh, my grandfather came to visit and stayed at the holiday inn in garner…we went to walmart for some stuff and it was like i was walking into the niagara falls walmart…

As for where I work, im a supervisor at ACS in Cary…i take back the only white guy thing…my manager is white, thats it.

As for the jewish thing, they really will look at you almost as if you are not real, it shuts them up real quick

I’m a jew from NY, IM RICH NUKKA!!!

Fayetteville is ok from what i hear… I really like it here in Charlotte… Aside from the being held up a gun point incident the ppl down here are very freindly. Crime is higher than in Buffalo i know that much and takes in Meklenburg county are the highest in the state… but they aren’t bad unless you buy a house on like Lake Norman. Weather was a little cold for like a week or so but it is in the 70s today and it is going to only get warmer. The state itself has a lot to see from the mountains, and forest and of course the Beaches of Charleston are nice and there are plenty of old buildings to see and historic places to visit.
The job opertunities down here are great… Lots of money to be made and the city of Charlotte is one of the largest growing citys in the US.
Your getting married so you won’t really care that there are TONS of HOT southern girls… Skirts and short shorts all year from what i can tell
Overall i give it Two Canadian Thumbs Up EH?

some things i can think of that will be an adjustment:

  • there are no sahlen’s hotdogs to be found  (have your fam bring you some when they visit)
  • there’s no deposit on bottles/cans
  • labatt costs as much or more than corona ( :gotme: )
  • there are no ‘corner’ liquor stores; you have to go to the liquor authority to buy booze
  • you can buy wine at the supermarket
  • you can buy fireworks (only wussy ones though…)
  • there’s only 3% sales tax on car purchases (there is however an annual fee)
  • gas is generally ~$0.20+ cheaper per gallon

hmmm food, liquor, fireworks and cars; i think that’s everything. lol j/k

feel free to add to the list^^

NC vs WNY

-There is a def lack in Eduction System…
-Fun words Like YALL, TWERNT, Darlin, YeeHa, are annoying, and truthfully i hate Southern Accents! Not that my accent is better.
-GREAT BBQ down here in the good ol’ South

  • car doesn’t rust unless your the idiot driving in the snow
  • electric is cheaper
  • gas as a heating device is more expensive
  • housing is more expensive, but nicer areas
  • unless you live in durham you don’t have to hear about a shooting everyday
  • like mike said coronas are cheaper…12 pack for $10 but rarely can you get a canadian beer
  • Everything has a drive-through

Uh, you can smoke in bars in NC, and I want to puke after standing in one for 5 minuted.

People look at me funny and think I automatically know Kung Fu.

That will be changing very soon

Edit : Smoking that is, not your kung fu style

NC Negatives
-hot dogs dye the bun red and taste like balogna - bring zwiegles
-“mash the button” “I’m fixin to…” “Tobagan is a sled not a hat”
-if you don’t like Budwieser, you’re fucked
-if you like smoking bud, you’re fucked
-if you live in eastern NC your BBQ sucks and has cole slaw on it
-native NCs can actually smell yankee on you
-You are going to go to hell and everyone keeps reminding you
-if you curse in public, people get really mad and offended
-no basements and very few garages
-someone asked me to be in their club. They have a really silly looking uniform.

NC Positives
-sun all year round
-if it does snow, everyone gets to stay home
-you can actually justify the purchase of a RWD car or convertible
-availability of cars more than 10 years old that aren’t rusted to shit
-there are places to get good wings and garbage plates if you know where to look
-easy to identify other people from NY, they’re the only ones wearing leather jackets
-one set of rims and tires for the whole year
-motorcycle can be practical transportation
-jobs growth mobility
-if you’re from NYS you’re already smarter than most of your new neighbors
-da beach yo!
-Blue ridge pkwy
-deals gap
-year round drag racing
-traction @ rockingham

okay that’s enough. Maybe we should start NCSpeed?

No, they’ve just never seen a Hawaiian before.

Fuck, forgot about that! That’s it, I’m moving!

I’m getting married, not dying. I still enjoy looking! :jawdrop:

Screw the Sahlens, I was born/raised in Rochester. Zweigels 4L!

No problem. Bud Lite was my homework beer!

Seriously though, thank you guys for all of these first hand opinions. It’s seriously very helpful. I’m going to show this thread to my fiance. It’s realyl sounding like a place that I would enjoy. It doesn’t sound like North Raleigh or around there is oppressively redneck. Besides, half my family is from Springville (NY) so I’ve got some redneck in my blood anyways, which will make them boys south of that thur Manson-Nixon line more tolerable. Plus it sounds like a Northern Engineering degree combined with a touch of eloquence should make getting a job doable.

I’m also going to want to get my MBA around the time we’re thinking we’d be down there, so hopefully I can get in to UNC’s or Duke’s business school. As long as I rock the GMAT’s I should have a chance. Any other good business schools near Raleigh that I’m forgetting?

good luck down there.

i wanted to move to carolina for a while. perfect location and the job market is growing. good weather and like other’s said when it snows- everything is closed. Now that is nice. Also, when your family from NY is traveling to florida, they will always stop and stay with ya on the way down. I love my family that lives in Carolina-free hotel. lol

Not for another year+. We’re getting married 6/9/07.

Sounds like you’ve spent some time in NC. Do you like it there?

:frowning: everybody leaving. Don’t go. We want you to suffer with the rest of us.

I just want a little taste of the warm life. I still love Buffalo. Snow storms are fun, the food great, and I love it here when it’s warm. Summer’s great in Buffalo if you can get that weekend off.

in the same boat as you dude…ive got resumes out to about 5 other southern states as of today…

Hey, I think I may have just figured this out. You work at that new facility on Wurlitzer? I live down the street. :stuck_out_tongue:

I lived in fayetteville for 4 years, call me if you wana talk about the joint, my fingers arn’t up to all of the typing required. 698-5787

I used to live in cleveland actually… right by garner… I know garner has blown up in the last few years. cleveland schools actually sucked alot back in the day. mostly tobacco farms and stuff like that. all my info is like 10 years old but you are welcome to ask what i know.

Yep that’s me. Any time you see the red Jetta there I’m probably in here slaving away, or in todays case reading NYSpeed while nursing a hangover…

Feel free to pop in and check the place out any time.
