Lackawanna man accused of trying to join, promote ISIL

The lengthy criminal complaint alleges that Nagi was attempting to provide material support and resources to the terrorist group ISIL. The FBI cited phone and online communications records that show Nagi has previously traveled to Turkey, and had also planned to enter Syria through Turkey to join ISIL.

He also spent more than a month in Turkey and Yemen in the summer of 2014.
Nagi was also found to have purchased a tactical vest, army combat shirt, body armor, and combat boots before traveling to Turkey in 2012. He bought several other combat-related items in 2013, while posting several pro-ISIL related messages on his Twitter account.

That complaint is a long read, but it’s interesting to see how they were able to backtrack on all of his devices and see what/where he was. They pulled alot of data from his Twitter, eBay, email and cell phone apps that will be used against him.

Welcome to the modern world where you incriminate yourself by using the technology provided to you.

Big brother is watching all the time.

horrible opsec

You would think after they caught the first people idiots in the US would stop using Twitter but this actually happens a lot.

Let’s hope they keep doing it.

It seems like Twitter is actually how they get into it, they start following these accounts that share pictures and quotes and these US people get all infatuated with it and start obsessing over it. That’s what leads to the trips overseas and eventually meeting up with people they believe can help them.

I wouldn’t be surprised if some of those accounts are run by FBI just to be able to track the accounts who follow and see where the IP is from. They do actually state that they were able to match up his IP from Yahoo with his Twitter account.

Makes you wonder if they even needed the subpoena to get the info, it seems to me like they already had all the info they needed, they just covered their tracks.

Good thing we have all these idiots getting caught to make people think our Home Sec is worth the money we give them each year.

There was an article that the FBI and DHS is using people to publicly promote they foiled as a marketing campaign where they help along and make them out to be more of a threat and then show how useful they are at protecting us. Makes you wonder.

I would say the opposite

Random hackers on the internet identifying these people

I heard vaccines cause autism too.

Did they find any CIA pay stubs in his house?
