Anyone catch Top Gear last night, where they had all three cars in the studio side-by-side (LaFerrari, P1, and Porsche 918), and both Ferrari and McLaren essentially told them - “nope, you’re not going to race them.” They even sent along security personnel to ensure they weren’t tracked… even though McLaren uses Dunsfold Aerodrome as their personal testing grounds.
Jeremy even stated that Ferrari told the producers that if a privately-owned LaFerrari was to appear on the show, they would forbid the owner from owning another top-tier prancing-horse. James May spent the previous 10 minutes in a film powersliding one.
I gave a lot of credit to Porsche and the 918. Least interesting car of the three, but there were no phony restrictions for racing it on-camera.
That’s so stupid, the whole point of them is to battle one another. They all say they are better then the other but yet don’t let them put that to the test. This annoyed me.

yeah i posted that in the top gear thread… the Porsche is really the underdog where as the other two have something to lose by being beaten by the other two.
it is true as well though that at that level it doesnt really matter which is 3/10th of a second faster round a track.

They will, eventually, after they hash all the stipulations out. One manufacturer insisted they used customer cars, so there were no “factory ringers”, and the other insisted on straight-from-the-manufacturer versions, so the cars would be “ideal.” Take a guess who was who.
They’re not showing their cards yet as they all know there will be one winner. There can only be one.
i dont think there will be one winner… each appeals to slightly different tastes.
and the Laferrari is going to be so exclusive compared to the 918 with the P1 being somewhere in between.
