I did all my track stuff with my Tacoma in 4x4, think on the 1/8 I was at or under 9s, did not do a crazy high rev/break stand though. Was around 1.8k rpm I think. My best run on 1/4 was with 4x4 as well, but it really killed my top end speed by the end. Trade off between top end and 60’.
I know a few guys that did the track a ton with their Tacoma’s out of state that only did 4x4 launches for everything and they never had any problems, so I would say as long as you aren’t killing it on the launch it should hold up just fine.
Edit: Also, never tried to switch it to 2w after being in 4, but at least on my truck if I had constant throttle 4x4 would never disengage even during a gear shift. This also might be different for your truck as I believe 4x4 systems for engaging it is slightly different between Toyota and Chevy.
Being stuck in 4x4 should only really matter for 1/4 anyway. The 1/8 is so quick I don’t think I was ever past 3rd gear before I was at the end.
