Can LED be used with dimmers?
better, but a long way to go.
Most No; there are a few newer ones out there that can be.
If noted. Some are designed to work with dimmers.
While LED’s are a great technology and will eventually capture huge market share. They are currently so grossly over priced that it is not a viable option for the average consumer.
CFL’s do have some draw backs, but the cost and the technology is such now that it is a very usable option.
If florescent is so bad what are all “cabin fever” lights made with them, and if they are so hard for people to focus with why are all reading lights made with them.
When the correct temp bulb is used it is much easier for the human eye to clearly see and read.
Are CFL’s the end all be all? NO, but LED’s are a long way from being a reasonable option in the avg consumers home.
we have other technology’s that will blow up before LED’s get to a reasonable price.
They are worth it for reasons already stated earlier in the thread and now they are half price to boot.
49 bucks a bulb is absolutely ridicules, esp when you are only saving a few watts over a cfl which can be found for $.99 or less. The savings is not even close to the original battle of cfl vs incandescent and people could not justify that savings.
they still have issues with heat, longevity (both due to over driving them) and light output.
oh and if you area big mercury freak, you better not get your kids vaccinated and your wife better not wear makeup.
This seems reasonable, dont know the reputation of the CO
As they continue to drop in price you can thank people like me.
It is no different than any other new technology, cheapskates get to enjoy them later.
We’re selling them as low as $11 a bulb for MR-16’s through my company. Some are dimmable, some are not.
This should make the tech become cheaper
I just got a batch of Sylvania bulbs in at wholesale cost of $35.58 (there are better prices out there). http://www.elightbulbs.com/Sylvania-78642-LED8A-DIM-F-830-A-Line-Pear-LED-Light-Bulb
But they are coming down pretty quickly.
Light Output: 430 lumens
Energy Used: 8 watts
Light output is half of a 60watt incandescent or 13W cfl equivalent. Match that up with a very directional light, and IMO they still have a LONG way to go.
Side note, CFL production is being moved to the US (Ohio) for the first time ever this month. Combine that with a new generation of bulb technology and the gap widens further. New generation is full bright in less than 30sec and allows for dimming down to 3%. Manufacturer is TCP.
I just picked up 4 packs of these to play around with at about $12 a pop shipped
Not sure what I am going to do with all of them but figure at that price I can get creative.
CFL bulbs aren’t even totally right yet.
The old ones that were huge that gave off the yellow light were terrible. The new ones are much smaller, but don’t last.
I end up replacing a CFL bulb once a year, I thought they were meant to last much longer than regular bulbs.
They should be lasting longer than that. If you are really blowing them out 1 per year, you can contact the manf and they will send you replacements. I have seen this happen in homes with very old electrical systems, or ones that have issues with power fluctuation.
BED your one coolaid drinking mofo.
Sunlight/Fire ftw
I think you mean “you’re”.
The irony is that I am least likely to be a coolaid drinker.
Bump, because you were right on these being the latest and greatest thing. Down around the $7-10 mark now for a good one too.
