LED lights for your home not car.

I put 4 recessed LEDs in my wife’s home office and they’re GREAT. 9watts each and 4 of them are BRIGHT. They are instant on and have a very good color. Will probably try and replace some more fixtures with LEDs in the future as needed.

Was hoping the update was “just got a bunch of sweet ones for cougarspeeds garage” :frowning:

Turned that over to my lighting guy this morning.

I was really surprised at the light color and quality when we started converting over. Just did a bunch of cans in the living room (scuse the mess…mid renovation), and was really happy with results.

And some fun with RGB LED strips. Stuff is stupid cheap on Amazon and easy to work with

Thank you. it only took 10 years to get an oz of respect on here/ubrf.

I went all recessed LED lights when I did my downstairs/home theater remodel (the thread for which which seems to have disappeared from nyspeed). They’ve been in over a year now with no issues and I love them. The light color is perfect, really nice and bright and they dim perfectly.

I replaced all the lights in my place with LED, my only complaint is that I couldn’t find the colors I wanted locally sometimes. They’d either be sold out or just have “soft white” in the size I was looking for.

Fuck soft white.

yeah. Soft white is gross. Warm white is more natural and incandescent like. soft white is around 3600K and warm white is around 2400K

Link to product used? I need some for a bathroom and kitchen.

has anyone tried swapping over completely to led from an incandescent/ cfl mix of bulbs and tried checking what kind of electrical drop they had?

also curious if you had to turn the heat up a few degrees to offset the lower heat output of the led.

i’m guessing there are zero energy savings here.

I am sure there are definite energy savings to be had going from cfl to led, but not nearly the savings had from traditional to cfl. Going from 60 watts to 13 is great, but going from 13 down to 7.5 is a much smaller gap. It’s still 40% less though.

I’ve had some trouble finding threads on here lately, but I soon realized that there is now an option to view threads in the last month, 6 months, year, since beginning, etc. It’s in the bottom left of the page. Maybe that solves your issue?

When we finished our basement last year I put in 23 recessed LED’s and no issues at all. I can’t talk about any energy savings because it was all new construction but our bill has not gone up at all and we spent 50% of the winter nights down there.
we just went with a brand they had at lowes, Utilitech 6" cans…think they were ~28/per included everything.
100% satisfied, replacing everything on our first and second floor with them this summer. Perfect lighting and they dim down the best I’ve ever seen.

FWIW, here’s what I went with in the living room.

I have CREE and Sylvania recessed retrofit LEDs in stock for around $15. I also sell the standard new work housings for around $5.50 I believe. That is a pretty unbeatable price.

I looked on their site and can’t find the ones I bought anymore. I know I have one spare sitting in a box at home so I’ll check tonight. They were pretty similar to these:

I switched all of my 60-75w halogen can lights to LED a couple of years ago when Phillips bulbs were at Ollie’s. I pretty much bought out their stock as I have approximately 60 can lights in the house.

i never noticed a real appreciable energy bill change, but I’m pretty good about turning out the lights when not needed. I have noticed the longevity of the LEDs. Haven’t had to replace even 1 yet whereas the halogens would burn out with relative frequency compared to their advertised lifespan.

the difference in heat generated is noticeable. My head used to get hot sitting in my office chair directly below a can light. Now there is no sense of heat from the lamp.

I bought a Cree, which was rated the best LED bulb at the Sweathome and I really like it. Comes on full brightness instantly, and doesn’t get as hot. You can have it on for an hour and unscrew it with your hand.

Does anyone have a link to a better bulb than this one for dimmable:

And for non-dimmable, < $6 sounds amazing per bulb:

I would like to start swapping out my most-used, almost always on CFL bulbs for LED. This 2700k is a good heat temp too, right?

Do they need to be BR20 ?

The CREE at home depot are pretty unbeatable and I am a CREE master distributor!
