Hey guys some of you may know me, names Derek I roll with that loud ass silver WRX and blue 08 Focus at central.Im on here seeking advice of all you gearheads,Currently my 06 legacy has a 3inch magnaflow catback,an SPT short ram intake, and has been tuned by Justin,I need advice on where to go from here,I’m definitely gonna get a catless up pipe and a high flow catted downpipe, but after that I’m kinda stuck on what I should do next,I know I can always run more boost but I’m nervous about hurting my motor the car is my DD so I cant have it go down on me with a major failure.I was wondering how much bang for the buck a STI intake and turbo manifold swap would be? maybe a VF34 later on,How much boost can the 2.5 block safely handle while still maintaing its reliability? If I do decide to run significantly more boost is alky injection a good idea? Its my first turbo car so I’m treading very carefully I know they respond well to simple mods but any farther than that I need advice on.Any and all is greatly appreciated,THANKS
Next mods should be as follows:
Boost & Wideband o2 gauges
Walbro 255lph fuel pump
Catless downpipe (bellmouth or divorced, up to you)
Catless uppipe
(retune)
Followed by:
Upgraded TMIC
Methanol Injection
(retune)
Then if you’re still not happy:
Bigger turbo of your liking
(retune)
Enjoy!
Justin
As Justin said, if you’re concerned with reliability, you first mods should be gauges to keep you in control of everything that is going on with the car, such as Boost and Wideband to start, EGT couldn’t hurt either. Next should be supporting fuel mods such as a fuel pump.
As stated above, let the motor breath in and out a little better and you will increase power, response without sacrificing any reliability. Soon after make sure the gas will be able to handle the boost and that the air is cold enough, that should keep you occupied for at least a year.
please refrain from going over 2000rpm, my eardrums still hurt.
Nah thats not my car its my buddys I drive the legacy
You’re going to want to get a fuel pump ASAP. On the STOCK maps, the stock fuel pump is at 100% duty cycle, meaning it’s working it’s little heart out. The problem with our cars compared to the WRX’s is that the stock fuel pump assembly will need to be modified in order to use the Walbro 255lph fuel pump, like the one I have. Mine’s been sitting on my bookshelf for 11 months as I’ve not gotten around to install it, nor do I feel like it. Companies like AVO offer a solution, but it’s pricey. You send them your stock fuel pump assembly, and then they modify it and put in a Walbro 255 and then send your assembly back. Or you could just buy the AVO fuel pump assembly for $400. Which is asinine. A Walbro 255 pump is around $95 or so, with an install wiring harness for a WRX.
The EJ255 block can handle fine (350-450whp depending on tune) amounts of power without needing to be built up. The problem with upping the boost lies in the intake manifold and the intercooler. The o-rings which seal the intake manifold against the heads tend to like to blow out around 19-20psi, and the tabs holding the plastic endtanks on the aluminum intercooler like to snap at similar boost levels.
The weakest link in our car is the transmission. Similar to the 06-07 WRX transmission, it’s proven to not hold the amount of power the block can. With the way you drive, you can prolly get 1000whp through the trnasmission lol. The average driver can prolly hit 350-375whp on the stock gearboxa s long as they’re not dropping the clutch. Which brings me to my next point. Only one company makes a clutch specifically for the 05+ LGT with the 5MT gearbox. That company is Spec. What you’d wanna do ideally, so you have more clutch choices, is get a flywheel and clutch assembly from an 06+ WRX.
I’m done for now. It’s 2am.
comming from a fellow subaru owner… listen to me when i tell u this… SELL IT AND GET AN EVO… the end.
Right but unlike you he bought a decent car to start with
Justin does the same price still apply for every retune? if so your gonna break me!!
You have a pm.
