I’ve been meaning to do this for awhile, but I work for NOCO, in the Natural Gas and Electric Division. I help people take advantage of New York State’s deregulation of utilities and I try save people money.
If any of you dudes want to save a few bucks a month on your bills, just shoot me an email at switter@noco.com. We can talk about the advantages of switching and I can answer any questions. NOCO supplies for National Grid, National Fuel, NYSEG, and RG&E.
Simply put, you save on certain portions of the bill that the utility charges, that NOCO does not.
If this strikes anyone’s fancy, all I would need is an email with your account info, and I can take care of the rest.
AAA members actually get a pre-paid $25 AMEX card if you sign up your gas supply, just make sure to mention that in the email.
Sign up or not, no big deal, I just wanted to mention it to my fellow home owners or even renters that like saving some dough. :tspry:
In Jan 2013 my billed rate was $0.412626 and I used 168 CCF. Multiply those two and you get $70.55, while they charged me $73.94. So somewhere $3.38 in “fees” was added to the ECA costs.
Still, bottom line I’ve saved a decent amount of money using ECA over National Fuel considering it requires zero effort on my part. $67 last year on a house that has pretty low heat bills to begin with. I’m not opposed to switching again but I’d like to see proof that I’d save money first. There are lots of companies out there claiming they’ll save you money by switching. My mom was using one last winter and I knew something was up when her heat bills were higher than mine despite her house being less sq/ft, better insulated, with a newer furnace and keeping the temp set lower. Sure enough when I got her bill details I figured out that she would have been paying about $20 less a month than me if she was using ECA. Instead she was paying about $30 more using some other company (not NOCO or National Fuel).
The $3.38 sounds like sales tax on supply, which would still remain.
Those rates are pretty good. Based on what you’ve posted, it looks like NOCO would be a wash, if not a touch more expensive. National Fuel was able to buy a “block” of gas at a crazy low rate late 2012 into early 2013 where NOCO was sadly a bit more expensive. We’ve been beating them again for 5 months, but you are looking pretty decent for your gas.
The only benefit I could say is that we offer the $25 AMEX card for AAA members to be a new gas member, and then you can switch back if you don’t like the rates. Theres no cancellation fees or anything like that.
We also do electricity. I signed my parents up and they saved $20 on just one bill. I did an analysis for another electric customer who was only with us for 8 months thus far and we saved him $53 over the utility.
My opinion is stay with the gas, which is not a great sales pitch, but cant argue with those figures. We can talk electric numbers if you want
We do Steuben county, no issues there. NOCO has been around 80 years, and is 3rd gen Family owned and operated. These other supply companies are owned by larger out of state/out of country corporations. I was a customer before I even worked at NOCO if that helps.
AMBIT is one of the previously mentioned companies. They are terrible and hit customers hard in the wallet. Check out the Public Service Commision (which tracks complaints). They have 65 so far this year alone, NOCO has 0:
I wasnt hating, just curious about them really since i keep getting people trying to sign me up or join their multi level marketing scheme or what ever it is called…
Back on topic ill talk to my roomate tongith and probably switch over
What ever you do don’t switch to HIKO. That was the one my mom was using and their rates were terrible. When I was looking into why her monthly bill was higher than mine despite having less sq/ft, a better furnace and better insulation my $102 bill using ECA it would have been $140 @ her rates with HIKO.
I have also been with ECNY for 6+ years. A couple of friends pulled the “sales pitch” on my GF and I, to switch to AMBIT under their referral, telling us we’d get a mini vacation for free. I was very skeptical, but we switched, because a friendship is worth more than a few bucks and we figured it wasn’t going to hurt anything. Sadly, we didn’t get the free anything, my electric/gas went up quite a bit over ECNY and after 6 months, I quickly switched back to ECNY and just never mentioned it to our friends ever again.
I’m never making that mistake again. AMBIT was a joke. ECNY > *
Sent my info over to Scott and got a letter from both utilities a short time later confirming the switch. I still haven’t seen the provider change on our Bills though. We also received the $25 GC for being AAA members. Thanks again Scott!
