Well, that sucks. And holy shit I can’t believe how badly it held up/didnt hold up.
Pretty crazy how that door came off it’s hinges in a pretty minor crash. Hate to have been sitting in the passengers seat.

More metal is always going to be safer than less metal. However, modern cars have crumple zones and airbags and other safety equipment, making them a better bet.
