Lincoln Aviator

Anyone have any experience with one of these? I’m looking to move into something bigger than my Si, and I found a pretty decent deal on one. I’ve done some research and I know it’s on the Explorer/Mountaineer platform, however it seems the Lincoln has more Lincoln specific parts (i.e. suspension/steering/Mach 1 engine/etc…)

Are they total pieces or what?

Some nice features, but there pretty cheap and cheezy, for what you pay for a newer one, you could pick up a few years old X5. I vote T-down

find me a 2004 x5 for 11.5k

WOW there cheaper than I thought, well you could get an 01-02 for that I guess, I still wouldn’t but an aviator

They are nice trucks. the air cond seats are a nice touch.

Its basically an explorer rebadged as a lincoln with some fancy features which you already know. Any SUV you buy used is going for dirt cheap with gas prices, so 11 K for a 04 sounds right if it has higher mileage. I guess the only thing that would suck on these is the mpgs, I think you would expect only 15 mpg combined. Awd + V8 + Heavy ass body on frame suv = gas guzzlin

when i looked at one i did not like it

If your gonna try and cheap out on a “luxo” vehicle, why bother just get an explorer and use it for the functionality, the platform work well for that but fails at being a luxury vehicle

+1. Well said.

If you’re not going to tow over 3000lbs and really want an SUV I’d seriously think about looking for a crossover. 15mpg is not fun.

FAIL

If you really want to go lux on the SUV, I’d save up a little more and take an X5. My neighbor has one with a 3.0 V6 5 speed, soooo nice.

HaHa Yes speaking of FAIL good catch, but yeah dont bother with a half hearted domestic attempt at a luxury car you’ll only be disappointed

Not the greatest, but not bad by any means it is a ford explorer at heart but a good deal cushier. Reviews tend to be generally positive as well.

But do you really need to towing capability/can deal with 15ish MPG? If so it might be worth looking at.

Then why no just buy an explorer ? why waste the money on the half assed luxury

More powerful engine (DOHC 4.6)
Better suspension
Better seating
Better interior
More refined ride quality overall
Heated/Air conditioned seats
Better interior lighting
Automatic climate control
Front/rear climate control

And if you get into all the little crap, quite a good deal more.

All for not that much more than an explorer due to the resale of SUVs, yes new it was greatly overpriced. But for $10k you are getting quite a bit in comparison. Not the best by any means, but it’s far from complete crap.

I mean honestly you’re talking about spending $10k more on top of what was even suggested, is it really a surprise X-5 is the better of the two.

I love how people say the Lincoln sucks because its a domestic and its a wanna-be luxury car, despite the fact Lincoln’s been building luxury cars since the 1920’s…

They are nice trucks. We had one as a pool vehicle at my old job and everyone would always fight for it over our other trucks. It’s much nicer inside and to drive than the Explorer. Gas mileage isn’t great, but that DOHC motor is also alot ballsier than the anemic 4.0L or 4.6L SOHC in the Explorers.

Meh base explorer, towing package, money better spent IMO

yeah the only thing holding me back at this point is the mpg. it’ll be my all year dd, but come spring time i will be able to purchase a “fun” car too, so it’s likely not going to see a lot of the road once it gets warmer. i’m definitely still on the fence with this thing.

This is how I feel about the TBSS. I am buying my focus as a summer vehicle. Dont forget you going to take it easier in the winter too with all the snow and ice. How bad of a commute do you have each day??? Im 2 miles from work fo 4 miles round trip per day.

most explorers and such were 5.0’s untill I think 06

4.0 v6, or SOHC 4.6
