What are they worth? (I can’t KBB @ work)
Which will have a higher re-sale in the future?
Any potential problems?
The other contender @ different dealership was a 97 Grand Cherokee w/ I6. 132k, fully loaded, 6500 bux. I don’t think I want it after looking at these things.
+1 for the Jeep. its a jeep thing… my mother has had numerous Fiords, including two mountaineers. Ujoing problems, rear brake problems, Swaybar endlinks that fell off twice, my subaru is much better in the snow IMO… look for a forester $.02
MPG isn’t a major concern… but don’t let it blow right out the window.
I’m not looking for something thats going to get me in trouble…
I was just in the shitter, thinking about all the sweet stuff I could do to the Explorer… being a 5.0… and then I figured… go slow, save $$.
Factory quickness is :pimp: though… Grand Cherokees are hot though, always thought so.
I doubt if either one would be worth a whole lot in another 50k miles. Domestic SUV’s don’t seem to hold their value too well do they?
Gas mileage is gonna suck in both so I wouldn’t worry about that (probably average mid-high teens).
autos.msn.com lists the Explorer’s blue book at 5600-7450 autos.msn.com lists the Jimmy’s blue book at 5000-6600
The Ford is listed as being a bit more reliable (4/5 bars vs 3/5 bars for the Jimmy).
I <3 leather so I’d probably opt for the explorer even though it’s higher mileage. Plus you’ll get to listen to your buddies tell you every FORD acronym they can think of!
I have a 2000 GMC Jimmy, Black, Black cloth interior. 4x4, 62,500 miles, sunroof, power windows, heated mirrors, keyless entry etc that i’m selling very soon. Has a 1 month old transmission. Looking to get right around $10k for it.
parts are cheap and plentiful for 5.0 explorers. you can sneeze at a 302 and it makes forty extra horse. if it’s a DD or just for light offroading, may want to consider that.
I guess I’ll be the first and say don’t buy either an explorer, jimmy or Jeep and keep the VR4. You’ll shoot yourself when you go from twin turbo AWD to dirt slow gas eating 4wd.
yeah honestly jack, buy yourself a jeep. a couple years ago i was in the same dillema, i drove a 99 explorer, a 98 blazer, and a 98 grand cherokee. the jeep was so much further ahead of the two in terms of style, features, and reliability. there’s such a huge aftermarket following for all models of jeeps too, it’s crazy. find yourself a 98 limited for around 8-9k and you’ll get around 15-16mpg out of a 5.9l, which isn’t good, but not terrible either.
