The reason it’s linked like that is because the word originally was used for PEOPLE…
Like people who say when something is GAY it’s just because it sucks, not having anything to do with homosexuals.
The reason it means “sucks” is because it evolved from people thinking gay people “sucked” so by saying something is “gay” associates it with gay people, who “suck”.
Explain it away as much as you want, but that’s the only reason why a word that means “happy” morphed into something that means “bad”
so instead of saying " wow that was retarded" lets make it “wow that was stupid”. but wait, should we ban the word stupid too? because, i mean its the same thing, right?
retarded is slang, same as nigger, wigger, ricer, etc.
retard is also a word with actual meaning - fire retardant, retarded my timing, etc
it is NOT a “classification” of an illness. It is a slang summation of mental disabilities. I’ll bet $100 there is not a single current medical text defining “retard” as an illness.
Now, the greater issue is people referencing mental handicaps (over whatever PC term you want to use) as a bad thing [calling someone a retard, even though they are not, implies being retarded is a bad thing], to which I can agree. This IS the same as calling someone a nigger in that light, which I can also agree with. However - the ultra basic root of the problem is that we (Americans) as a whole don’t respect other people enough to understand that such shit is not necessary. Not just with implying retard / nigger / beck / fag are bad things, but not caring enough that the person might have a valid emotional reason to be pissed off about it.
Its going to get to the point where everyone is offended by everything and anyone can sue you for anything. I mean we’ve seen the lawsuits that have gone on recently. I vote against sensitizing America and bringing back survival of the fittest.
