I think it’s a hard campaign to win when it’s based so much on personal connotation. I never grew up around anyone with a mental disability so the word “retard” to me doesn’t bring up any hate mongering or images of mentally disabled people. Certainly it’d mean different things to you if your life was impacted by someone with a mental disability.
I guess if it was deemed a universally offensive word… it’d make it easier to pick out ignorant people maybe? Besides that I don’t see anything changing.
