Awesome, I was confused for a second, thinking why are there two exhaust’s outs on the car. Awesome little project. When ya gonna drop it like its hot?
^ lol
how come u took the turbo off??
Needs more turbo, not less.:squintnono:
Turbo systems from the late 70’s are not very reliable. This one was not helping me with my runnability issues. The car runs fine when it’s cool, but when it’s all warmed up the car misfires and hesitates. The turbo itself had bad seals, so it was leaking oil pretty bad. I like it without the turbo, sounds way better.
I just need to figure out what the issue is still. And I’m reconsidering lowering the car. I like it the way it is.
I’ve got an uncut engine wiring harness and ecu from a '77 I’d sell if you think that’s the problem.
I think it’s most likely an ignition problem somwhere along the line, I’ve replaced the distributor, thermotime switch, plugs, wires, cap & rotor, coil, fuel pump, and injectors. there’s still an issue. I wasn’t really throwing parts at the car though. the car is 33 years old and pretty much original, a lot of things needed replacing.
I’ve tried the z forums, like hybridz and whatnot, but a lot of those guys seem to be stuck up and unwilling to help. I have the fuel injection troubleshooting guide for the car, I just need to find some time to go through everything and properly diagnose it.
Edit: this is also a reason I pulled the turbo off the car, the fuel injection guide has no provisions for turbocharged cars.
You pretty much nailed hybridz right there, there are a few knowledgeable people and a lot of dumb ones.
I’ve got a good portion of the original EFI kicking around because I went megasquirt from the beginning, if you think you need something, let me know.
Any spare motors? Lol I did a compression test and 4 cylinders are at 115 psi another at 65 and another at 105
No, sorry.
Check the normal things like the cooling system being pressurized and the valve lash. Which one is low?
I think it’s most likely going to be the valve lash, I put a p90 cylinder head on the car last summer with arp studs. I should retorque the studs. The head was rebuilt but they might not have set the lash properly. It is only two cylinders that are low.

Cylinder 5 is at 65, six is 105.
so I adjusted the valve lash, compression is up. but it doesn’t run anybetter. I’m just pullin at straws now, I have no clue what’s up.
Put the old cylinder head back on. Obviously when you removed the turbo you reduced cylinder pressure. Once your done compression test with the old head back on. It should run a whole lot better but eventually you will have to replace some rings.
What harness/ecu does the car have? Turbo or N/A? What AFM? What mods were done to provide fuel under boost previously? What are the exact symptoms?
It’ll probably run a bit odd with the p90 in n/a trim even if it has the n/a ecu/harness/afm.
It’s the stock na harness and AFM, the turbo setup used a Hobbs sworn to fool the car into thinking that the carvwas running cold when it was boosting. It was an original bae kit, maybe it’s just the cylinder head that’s messing things up. The car will cruise at 55 perfectly but getting there is usually a pain. The car will hesitate and backfire. If you’d like to check it out I’d be more than happy to let you drive it if you think you might be able to diagnose it
I’m not too well versed in the factory efi, I’m just about out of ideas too. The last thing I can think of is the throttle position sensor(switch) on the TB, it’s got 3 positions, idle(lower contact), cruise(no contact), and acceleration(upper contact). It’s pretty straight forward when you take the cover off, make sure that the contact for acceleration isn’t stuck at the top.
You could just megasquirt it…
I’d almost rather run a set of triple webers, but I don’t have $1600 lol
I should look at the tpa, I’ve been thinking about it but haven’t considered it as a Cause. Maybe even just cleaning it would help. Well see
Just sell it to me as a shell.
I don’t plan on ever selling this car
Hey I have said that before, had to try though.
Looks great
Keep up the work.
