LOL anyone on here buy a 3.5L or 3.9L GM car in the last few days here??

I think GM is #2 in quality and very close to Toyota.I know back in the day they were pretty bad tho.All our machines are made in Japan now too

I don’t see how a snapped cam could get out of its journals. I could see a lobe shreading and scattering parts, but if you snap a cam, the parts are still only at most a 1/4 in apart, it will just slide back and forth in the journals. I’ve seen rods snap and take out the cam, but never the oppisite. I’m not saying your a liar or anything, i’ve just been doing this for 15 years, and have never seen a cam do that, or even heard of it. I know engines that have even snapped cranks (turned down 400 cranks in SBC’s for 383 applications are know for it) and the engine keeps running, it makes some gawd awful noise, the rear cylinders will usually fall offline right away due to messed up timing, but the front section still in time with the cam will run till you get scared and turn it off. but you do learn something new every day i guess.

It seems GM needs to get their sh!t together. What I don’t understand is that they’ve been building cars for well over 70 years and they still can’t seem to get it right. I mean look at the cobalt ss forums and the “Known Problems” thread, it’s a lot of stupid stuff that just shouldn’t happen. Just my $0.02. Oh and about the union workers “intentionally” breaking stuff, I’m starting to get sick of union workers too.

actually there has been GM service bulletins on the new 3.5 for quite some time now. Because the cam gears were shearing off and causing a no start condition. seen a few when i was still working at basil. Also in the past 5 months of working where i do now i have seen 2 3.1/3.4 motors come in running and have the cam broken in half. Thanks for the update though Misteroman.
