faulty ignition switches moving into accessory causing engine to shut off and airbags to not deploy in the event of an impact caused by the engine shutting off.
so… they’re blaming what like 31 deaths on this going back a number of years now?
It seems weird to me that the Toyota acceleration issue a couple years back garnered exponentially more media attention despite being less conclusive and being related to far fewer incidents than this one with GM.
i’m sure a bunch of you guys have cars impacted by this. what say you?
article from today on reuters discussing the matter and NHTSA activity thtoughout. I guess there were 300+ incidents of front end collisions where no airbag went off and that the recall should have happened when this was determined back in 2007
I was tuned on to a US radio station from Buffalo today and there was a Nissan dealer commercial using this as an excuse to get rid of your GM and into a Nissan… kind tasteless considering the death toll
Considering not enough parts to keep up with the recall… If you don’t feel safe, why not. It’s a long known issue that Government Motors handled poorly. I have no pitty.
True, and the Toyota issue was determined to be driver error / floor mats and nothing to do with Toyota themselves. GM can’t get out of this like they did.
The reason why it got more media attention is because of the 911 calls with panicked driver’s last words before crashing and dying. Nothing like that has surfaced in the GM case or I’m sure it would be all over the place.
Toyota was still just fined by our government for lack of disclosure though.
This isn’t a new thing with GM,just google “blazer shuts off while driving” and sure enough the remedy for this issue is replacing the ignition switch. Not really a big issue,it just ticks our tax return down a tiny bit next year when they do the recall.
I don’t see a problem with the Nissan commercial. GM should have done something about this back in 2007, Can’t blame your competition for pointing out how shitty that is.
It doesn’t seem odd to me that the GM recall is being understated in the media while Toyota’s was blown out of the realms of reason. GM is “too big to fail” and has the full backing of the US government. They have that OnStar crap that almost certainly provides data to the government/NSA. /tinfoil
GM bought it back. It was a bit different as it would not restart for 5-15 minutes.
Even stalled out in the EZ pass lane when my daughter was a few months old.
I could not get them to replace the ignition. They kept reprograming the body control module.
After 5 or 6 attempted fixes, we started lemon law procedings.
Instead of following through with it, we had a “Buy back” offer instead.
Satrurn was great to work with otherwise so we bought the RL Vue.
Toyota’s was blown out of proportion. I don’t have the time, but if you knew the contradictions and bogus claims made by NHTSA and all the truth bending that happened against Toyota, your head would explode.
Toyota’s “unintended acceleration” never caused any deaths.
I guess Honda learned after killing 2 people and injuring 18 more with grenade airbags…
The GM one is definitely worse but Honda’s recall was done in several stages as well since they failed to recall all the affected vehicles on the first couple attempts.
Out of a job yet keep buying foreign lolol yeah I will keep buying foreign cars made in canada so GM had another recall not much of a news story but those people that died rip and they families should get a jew lawyer
It’s crazy how the gm situation isn’t getting any media yet just the other day all the news was about how Toyota had to pay fines for the unintended acceleration
GM CEO Mary Barra told reporters March 18 that the recalled models are safe to drive while owners await the new parts, as long as the ignition key isn’t weighed down with additional keys or other items on the ring.
Yea, I can’t believe how much shit people have on their key ring. I only ever have my car key and remote for it. And maybe a house key if I live at a place where I lock the door.
