LOL at Southerners

that’s what I was thinking

Dorifto?

School never closed for cold wind for the 18 years i grew up in texas, only when 2-3+ inches fell, which usually melted by afternoon.
You see a lot of shitty, old ass cars in texas, not like up here where rust destroys shit and most people are driving 10 year old cars or newer. Down south its almost opposite, so many people driving shit mobiles, dripping oil and shit all over. It only rained maybe once every 3-4mo, so the roads had quite the build up. I grew up driving slower in the rain in texas, however up here wet or dry I drive the same.

I see at least 100x more weather related accidents up here then texas.

Well considering I live here… I’ll add my $.02.

Whenever the white stuff falls, people here panic and I generally stay off the roads. Its not because I’m afraid of the snow, its because I’m afraid of the idiot drivers. They have the ole’ binary approach to snow or icy conditions. It is either full tilt, or 2MPH, which is a big contributor to the mess we get when it ends up happening. Most of the population doesn’t know how to drive when it happens, the first five years I was here, it never snowed at all.

Add in that there is almost no snow removal equipment. Lots of highways, with lots of overpasses, and temperatures that fluctuate between just below and just above freezing make driving on the roads here when it snows/sleets quite a bit more difficult than what you typically get in the winter in WNY.

This storm was a bit unique. It started as sleet, then we got ~4" of snow, then it went back to sleet. Over the last 4 days, the pseudo thaw and freeze cycles have created sheets of ice everywhere. Most of it will probably be around for weeks, esp. on the overpasses.

I’ve driven through plenty of blizzards, but the combination of ice + super crappy drivers really is the suck down here right now. Today is the first day I’ve made it to work. There were sections of the interstates with dozens of tractor trailer trucks just parked for days.

In terms of accidents though, the storm we had a few weeks ago, that rolled in mid-day, and rained when it was about 34deg was way worse. Roads would be wet like normal rain and you’d hit an overpass that you didn’t see coming and weee…Typical rush hour, plus huge black ice problems meant hundreds of accidents per hour.

Crappy Drivers + No Snow Removal Equipment + Super Ice = Giant Fuster Cluck

:word:

And tons of people ride around on bald tires the accidents when it rains are crazy down there

Part of being a good driver is knowing YOUR limitations in both your skill as a driver and the vehicle you are driving. Shit happens. I had a few hairy knuckle experiences when I first started driving in the snow. I even had a close call on black ice this season during that crazy rain/snow storm. I am sure the vast majority of us do from time to time…we seem to lose sight of that fact.

No one is invincible/experienced right out of the gate. It should be no surprise that a freak storm causes chaios. That is like laughing at someone getting nailed at a red light. You where just unprepared for what was coming and you where at the wrong place at the wrong time.

But, it is still somewhat comedic to watch these videos. Either that Toyota’s 4WD is smoked or they never used it.

It probably doesn’t have 4WD. A lot of trucks/suvs purchased in the south are 2wd. 4wd isn’t usually needed.

I understand…but flaps say 4WD and at 0:47 you can clearly see the Axle going through the knuckle.

I am pretty sure that F-150 is not 4WD though.
