Okay…so here we are…IKSHO89 and myself driving home from work. I’m driving on the 400 heading towards the 90. Of course the 400 wasn’t plowed so i’m doing around 40-45mph. Well i eventually catch up to a buick century thats doing around 30. So i follow them because passing without snows sucks and i slide everywhere (yes i’m retarded for not buying snows…i know) So we finally get onto the 90…i believe right around the 190 exit there are cars parked along the shoulder with their hazards on and there is a car facing the wrong direction in the very left lane (headlights facing us) Well i was still following the buick and they decided to slam on their brakes and turn the wheel, well they spun out…hit the guardrail at about 45-50mph. i hit my brakes…my car started to slide obviously…so i start to think…hmm well i dont want to hit this dumbfuck so i start pulling the e-brake up and down lol. so here i go sliding on the 90 sideways at 50mph, JUST barely missing the cars, it definitly was an adrenaline rush to drift on the highway lol. IDK, i thought it was kinda cool and thought i would share…sorry for the novel. I couldnt stop to see if the person(s) in the buick was okay because of people behind me. hopefully they’re okay and learned a lesson not to slam on the brakes in the snow. oh well…stupid story…would be better with vids but i dont have any lol.
nice.
yea the high speed unintential drift is never fun but always exciting:ham:
people who drive in buffalo winters without snow tires are fucking retarded
thank you i know :thankyou:
I drive for a living… put over 50k miles a year on my car and this year is the FIRST year i have snows (and there in my parents garage right now lol)… I have NEVER had a snow related accident… we only get a few storms where there any good the rest of the time your chewing up soft compound tires…
I personaly dont think there needed… I do run nice all seasons… I wouldnt run Z or R compound tires… but snows really are not NEEDED… just nice to have.
trust me, buffalo drivers need snow tires… we’re all car enthusiasts that understand the basic idea of countersteering and part throttle LMAO but we only make up a small percentage of drivers in wny. its scary enough watching some people drive on a nice day, let alone in the elements!
i heart my snows…cheap pieces of shit…but way better than a summer tire on an 18x7 rim in winter.
Are you still on those Pirelli’s? Or whatever they were when I met you at Mighty? If so, damn that sucks, but  to not wrecking.
I was shocked at how many accidents I saw inbetween the William St exit, and the 290 on ramp on the 90… a lot of idiot drivers out there.
I was forced to have snow tires on my car through a few winters in northern Japan including one where we got over 240" of snow in a single winter (thanks USAF). I love snow tires now that I’ve seen the light… the best analogy is tires being shoes for the car. You don’t wear sneakers when there’s snow, slush and ice everywhere, they just suck in that situation. You wear boots in the snow/ice, because anything else will make you cold, miserable and you might slip and fall on your ass. Sure there are times when it’s just a little wet and even dry in the winter and you can get by with sneakers. Bottom line is if you’re not on snows and trying to drive through the shitty weather we get around here, you deserve whatever you get, and you make life miserable for those of us who are wearing proper footwear on our vehicle.
Never had snow tires and never had a winter/snow related accident…guess i’m not a pussy!!!
Snow Tires + AWD = Me out at 2AM just because I can be. <3
That said I had a 2WD pickup on all-seasons for 3 years. Never really gave me an issue. But the snow tires are quite a nice addition, and are the single best improvement in handling the snow better.
Snows are for people who have wide performance summer tires. A good narrow all season on a typical FWD sedan is more than enough for WNY winters. It’s these morons who run bald all seasons or performance tires in winter that should be ticketed.
Obviously…last year I couldn’t even move the Trans Am 20 feet from the driveway into the garage when we got our first snow fall. I’ve driven FWD, AWD, and RWD in that order the last three winters all with just a decent all-season tire without a problem. Anyone who drives their summer wheel and tire combo in the winter is just poor and stupid.
while on topic … could any car be “good” in the winter with just real good snow tires… take car A with new snows and car B with summer tires same driver and would car A be better… im asking b/c i drive 65 miles one way to work every day and my civic (“all weather tires”) is poop in the snow while my minivan(“winter tires”) is great…
+2
 to spending money to mod your car, yet not getting proper tires…
Well, most WNY people laugh when I tell them my GTO is my DD. With good aggressive snows it’s actually quite good in the snow. The one snowfall I got caught in with the original half worn high performance all seasons and it was a death trap though.
so it is true then really any car can be good if you just have good tires and not act like a asshat around
