I’m going to South Carolina to set up for an off-site meeting.
Problem is - there like, a couple football fields between the place with the Broadband - and the place where everyone is going to be for the meeting.
I have already toyed with the idea of wireless aircards (verizon is the only thing that works there) - but I’m not sure how good the EVDO is going to be.
Anyone have experience with setting something up like this?
unless you set up internet through a wireless carrier like verizon and sprint, the ONLY way you’re gonna send a signal (wirelessly) over that distance is through a wireless bridge, which will give you a few miles, or microwave, and I don’t even know who sells that stuff. The bridges will set you back a few grand. Maybe run optics to an AP?
Edit: As far as daisy chaining (or repeaters), business class AP’s have a range of about 1000 feet. Each “hop” across a daisy chain will cut the speeds in half, regardless of how close/far they are. Just something to consider. http://www.ciscopress.com/articles/article.asp?p=426639&seqNum=6&rl=1
At my old job, we were able to cover some pretty long distances with just a couple of Yagi antennas and cheapo Linksys wireless access points configured as bridges. Having the antennas mounted high enough to get a clear line of sight is the key to success. We were able to do well over 1/4 mile with these setups reliably.
Since this sounds like it is going to be a one-time thing, and not a permanent solution it probably won’t work for you though.
