Looking for a car/trade or sell mine... suggestion?

So recently I got in a “fender bender” where some asshole decide it was ok to come to a full stop in the middle lane of sludge/snow covered Transit road. This was due to some guy pulling out of a drive way who was already sticking out into the first lane. So when I went to stop, I just slid right into the back while only traveling 30mph with a decent length in between us.

Anyways, I’m now looking to sell the car/trade it in to get something else. The car drives, its got a broken headlight on the passenger side, broken fog light, broken corner light, hood is bent, fender is bent, bumper pushed down a little. It has 152k miles on it and its an 02 forester. I’d be looking to trade or sell it but would love to get around $1400 or so.

Where is a good place to find a car around $6k - $7k that will take trade on something like this? I’m looking for a manual transmission this time. Does not need to be a Subaru. I’ve come across a place with a 2 door 5 speed accord, but not sure they take trade.

Not looking to get into an American built car.

Any suggestions or anyone interested in mine, let me know.

I doubt any dealership is going to be interested in your wrecked 12 year old Forester with 152k. Sell it on craigslist, where you also won’t get much without fixing it first, then buy your next car without having to deal with unloading your pile in the deal. They’ll likely offer you scrap costs on the condition you keep the car so they don’t have to deal with it.

PS… You were the asshole in the crash, not the other guy.

Your opinion… last I checked, you don’t stop in the middle of a road to let someone pull in with no traffic in front of you.

You were following too closely if you couldn’t control your car and stop in time…

30mpg in a all wheel drive subaru with a decent distancce? you shouldnt blame on the other guy being an asshole but yourself.

why spend more money on a winter beater when this is the perfect one, zip tie the headlight if thats the only you would get pull over with.

Plows went over the road only salting about 5 minutes before. Second I hit the brake I slid. Guess 2 1/2 car lengths at 30 wasn’t good enough…

anyways, aside from the accident because that’s not something I care to talk about. Any suggestions on a location. I’m aware I’m not going to get top dollar, thanks. I’m also aware most places will give you about $800 even if the car is beat to shit.

try finding me a car on craigslist that’s under $1000 that still runs/moves that’s awd with that many miles. I’ll wait.

:word:

I’m looking for something else to grab my interest. Good winter car or not, I don’t care for it. Its a boring car and I want something all year round to keep me from putting more and more miles on the S2000.

Yes they “give” $800 and you end up eating that money somewhere else.

Just buy some Honda that gets good gas mileage and get a cheap pair of snows how often do you actually “need” AWD around here.

If you didn’t hate American cars you could probably lease a Cruze for $140 a month so you’re not driving a POS around for half the year…with the trade in on the subaru you would be close to you 6-7k over 3 years.

chances are your insurance totaled it, and if it’s drivable, it couldn’t have worked out better for you. go to the junkyard, buy fender/bumper/hood/lights/whatever for under $600, and fix it yourself. Put the rest of the money you got from the claim right in the bank. When it gets warm again in May and you want to put money into the S2000 or whatever you’ll tell yourself “wow i’m really fucking glad I didn’t spend all this cash on another crappy winter car that does exactly the same job as the Forester for more money”

If you’re really stubborn and want to get rid of it (which IMO is silly because it still runs and drives fine), at least it will be worth more on CL in fixed condition than a smashed up Forester, and you can put that towards your new fancy winter car.

Not that I’m a professional or anything, but your car is worth $225. Last month it would’ve been worth $350, but scrap value went down. Your best bet is to fix it and drive it. Or you can put it on craiglist if you enjoy being stroked.

I’m assuming you owe money on the car. I’m also going to go out on a limb that you don’t have insurance or the money to pay for the deductible. I realize that if I am correct on either or both, you won’t admit it.

If you’re looking to help out a sponsor, PM TORQDSS or 38stang, both really good, stand up dudes. They can take the car in on trade, pay it off and get you into something else. David (TORQDSS) can probably get you into a cheap Cruze payment.

Both s2000 and forester are paid off. Both have full coverage on them. I have enough to buy this 7k car out of pocket. If you want to think low or trashy of me, thanks.

As for doing a loan… I put about 15k on my beater a year. And again, its not just for winter.

I didn’t imply anything about being trashy. I was just trying to formulate ideas on why you wouldn’t fix the Subaru and then sell it.

What does 15k a year have to do with a loan? That’s the national average for yearly mileage.

Probably because I suggested leasing something

I just want out of this car. I’m looking at selling it after winter anyways… its to tall/leans to much and I don’t like it. I’d prefer a car/lower to ground. I’d love a wrx or impreza but this time of year… its to hard to find one for a reasonable price seeing as its like buying a snowmobile during winter.

exactly. Most lease option allow for around 12k-13k from my knowledge. Also don’t want to feel I have a set limit per year. I’ve looked into leases before, just don’t work out in my favor with all the things I do. Also don’t like the fact you are without a car when it comes time to turn it in.

I still have to disagree with selling it - especially for the reason of “it’s too tall and leans too much”, since you know the history of the car and it seems to be reliable so far. If you absolutely insist on selling it, fix it yourself first. Your typical offer for a wrecked but drivable Forester on CL is going to be absolute bottom dollar (pretty much scrap value like Beck said). On the other hand, a Forester that’s in generally good shape with that year and miles will attract people looking for winter cars, students, and parents/teens looking for a good first car.

Just seems silly to get out of a paid off, trouble free, reliable car and into debt because you’re tired of it and it leans too much.

Ahhh, good ole Monday morning entertainment.

You asked for suggestions, yet you get upset when people offer their opinions on the subject?

The amount to fix the car + deductible + selling it as is, is about the amount I’d get if I sold it after winter. I’d prefer to just get out of it now.

Also want a manual. I’m finding more and more I’m getting annoyed and sick of this car. Just little things bugging me with it I’d prefer not having it anymore.
